Default RS Steering Wheel To A 90-94 Legacy SW

I've driven an RS several times but I'm trying to remember the feel of it's Steering Wheel. The wear on my Legacy's steering wheel is getting to the point where I'm gonna have to buy on of those SW condoms or something. I was thinking about switching my sw with a pre-02 RS Steering Wheel. I basically would like to know if there's any difference. I mean, is the RS steering leather-wrapped or is it plastic/whale-skin like the older Subies? Thanks'

Question Good Question

Well, I'm considering installing the SW myself.. I love find out how my Legacy was built. If I mess it, there's a neighborhood Subie mechanic next door. I got a good deal on the RS steering Wheel: $60 bucks. The most it would cost to install it elsewhere would be about $25 or so.. I'm praying that it won't need a support or a lifter or whatever it's called. We'll see. I'll set everyone know how it goes when I get it on..

I don't know if this would be exactly the same on a Legacy, but heres a steering wheel swap done on an RS (be careful of the airbag!)

That was my install mod page. My wife has a 97 Legacy Limited OB and the wheel is almost exactly the same as my 99RS. The only difference is the stitching is red on the RS everything else is the same. I suspect the cruise control lever may have to be switched out too but that's easy.

I still have my RS wheel and airbag sitting on my workbench. I'm torn on selling it or keeping it. If I ever get in an accident with the Outback I may need an airbag, If I get in one with my RS I'll need an airbag but may have to put the OEM wheel back on because they may not replace the WRX wheels airbag. I probably couldn't get much for it but a replacement one is quite a bit.

Default o.k

Thanks Eric, but the wheel is being sent to me from a guy who is Rally prep'in his RS. I doubt he'll send the airbag to, so that process is already taken care of. I'm just hoping the cruise control wires are the same. If not, I'm gonna have to grab some tips from Peaty

If he's rally prepping it he can't use the airbag. That's how I got my WRX wheel w/ the airbag too. The guy was doing the same thing to a WRX. As far as the CC stalk. I just swapped out the switch it's very easy. 2 Screws The plug for the harness was different. I could just as easly cut off the plug and spliced the wires if needed. The wires are even the same colour but of course the harness was just a little different.

Hello Peaty,
Lets just say that you were to sell your RS wheel to a guy that would love to have a wheel that would mach his RS shifter Knob and his red interor

How much would you want for it?

Thanks,

Mark Sims
