Default Don't know much about Standaolnes, so help

Okay I may be considered by some to be postingin wrong forum, but i figured you all would know best. My situation is that I'm swaping an jspec ej20t into my 97 impreza L. I know wiring is a byatch and all with the merging, but i'm planning on running a bigger turbo and larger fuel injectors and pump. Now I would like to have standalone for doing this. I'm not to knowlegdable on the system, and exactly how they hook up and what thwy replace as far as wires. So I guess my question is can I just run standalone staright from the beginning and help save the agony of merging two harness? Will it make wiring easier for me to do this, and how much original wire harness is required? It would be sweet if I could get an EMS that replaced the whole harness and all i had to do would be swap connector tips. Anybody have knowledge on if this will save me any sweet and money?
