Default Weird cycling noise when engine is already warm

Hello,
My 2014 Impreza is making a funny noise. I don't know much about cars, but it almost sounds like the engine is revving a little bit, like it does when the engine is cold, but to a lesser degree. This is occurring after the engine is already warm. I first noticed it a few weeks ago, but it seems that it is occurring more frequently, lately. The check engine light isn't on, or anything like that. Has anyone run into this before? Hesitant to take it to the dealer, because they seem mainly interested in doing generic maintenance.
Starting to get nervous,
John in MI

Is the AC compressor running? If you have defrost or defrost/heat mode on, or climate control in full auto mode, the AC compressor may cycle on and off periodically. As it does there is a momentary change in engine RPM.
