Definitely like the cooler one better. Yeah, I tested Nikons version of the 70-200 f2.8 and man is that thing a beast. Not Sure I want to haul that much weight around. May have to look at the f4 version. Half the weight and cost 40% less.

The 'light painting' got me motivated. I went out and bought a flat wand style led work light and gave it a shot. This is my first try so don't be to harsh.
T2i, kit lens, 35mm(ish) iso 100, f4, 30s It was pitch black on this side of the lot. The other side is lit by yellow overheads and I didn't want to fight the white balance, even though I ended up going b&w... |

Nikon 70-200 2.8 is the absolute best lens I've had. Weddings, landscape, travel.. anything. And weight? I'm going trekking for 17 days to Everest Base Camp with it next week so I'll let you know if it's a problem

Wow some amazing work here....
I actually just bought my 1st DSLR camera this week.... i was hoping to take some better detailing shots of my car to start a small part time job lol But man there is so much to learn about these cameras, and i HAVE NEVER worked with a DSLR until now, always used the digital point and shoot pocket size cameras. Does anyone know if there are like some tutorial i can look at to learn more about these cameras? PS: I currently own the Sony A57 |

Yeah you can't beat just going out and trying different things. Reading the manual will help a lot but will become tedious. I bought one of those "for dummies" books for my specific model and would highly recommend it! It gives great examples and the text is a size that you can actually read.

Yeah, 500/4 is exactly right. I'll confess - this one's actually a rental, I haven't decided which supertele I want to buy yet. I still need to try the 300.
Shooting with the 500 is fun though, especially trying to find new angles to shoot with it that aren't played out. It's interesting shooting with TCs and DX too. With TC 1.4 and DX: DSC_4924-Edit.jpg by maximstensel, on Flickr The normal way is nice too, though. I think these are on my D3s: DSC_6402-Edit.jpg by maximstensel, on Flickr DSC_6185-Edit.jpg by maximstensel, on Flickr RX7 GTO by maximstensel, on Flickr The 70-200 gets plenty of use too. Processing is done with Nik Color Efex Pro with the vintage theme of the event in mind. I've mostly shot historic racing the past few years, I want to do some more serious events but getting somebody to send me to them is hard. |
