Just want to clarify. I just got the 27151 (a) modified exhaust ticket marked correctable. Only mods are carb legal intake, stage 1 tune and cat back exhaust. If I put my stock exhaust on get it signed off then it's a lesser fine? Second question if I then put my 3in catback back on. If I get another ticket will it be the same deal? Or will I get in more trouble.

I just won one of these. Did they have a decibel meter? If not, bring it up. You win due to lack of concrete evidence but more importantly, illegal traffic stop.

I got one for tinted windows in el cajon CA, did it by mail , claimed illegal traffic stop , they took off exhaust but left window tint. Went to court my word vs theirs. I brought up they pulled me over for exhaust sound with no meter. Judge asked if I had tinted windows. I said yes, however since it was an illegal traffic stop, that is irrelevant.

I won, got my bail back. Cop took a walk of shame walking down the stairs to avoid me at the elevator.

I've won 4of 4 i've fought. Currently fighting one for my brother. I charge people but with guaranteed results.

I recently got pulled over in the RSM area for cvc27151 modified exhaust and tire flange? I guess my wheels had too much stretch on the tires. Anyways, was wondering if it is worth going to court to fight it or just throwing the stock parts back on and getting it signed off since theyre both "fix it" tickets. I keep reading to plead not guilty and bring up that the cop did not run a decibel meter test, which he did not. Kind of just wanna throw the stock exhaust back on and get it signed off but too lazy to do it, so wondering if it is worth fighting and good chance of getting it dropped. The court date is this week so trying to get answers asap. Thanks!

I just got another one of these damn things. 27156 (c ) I'll be fighting it for sure, since he didn't take any pictures and I got the car smogged the next day and passed. He wrote 27156 (c ) "modified exhaust system, state referee"

i'll be fighting it based off of many reasons. 27156 is about pollution control devices, 27151 is about modified exhausts. He didn't take any pictures, and pointed to my muffler as to the reason he was writing the ticket, he also tried to tell me I can't swap mufflers because that part of my emissions system. He also had 27150 written, then crossed it off of the ticket.

After three years of having the same exhaust and ride height, I got pulled over Saturday night for mod exhaust and mod clearance.

27151(a) VC Mod exhaust (noise)
24008 VC Mod clearance tires to fender

I'd fight them all TBD. No point setting foot in a court house.

Is it Full Turbo back systems that get the most Tickets?

It seems so sporadic based on the posts in this thread. Some people have a Down Pipe catted or not. Others have a Cat Back w/o mufflers, and some have a catted Cat Back.

I'm really wanting to go to stage 2, but based on some of these posts I been shying away from it for a year now.

Thanks

Nah, it's pretty much any subaru. The cops mess with anyone that sound "different". Although they are familiar with the subaru "rumble" in SO CAL, if you mod any exhaust component (especially EWG) they may try to cite you. Its all about revenue to them.

If u want the exhaust and it doesnt sound like a "fart can" or "trumpet", you'll be fine. If not, fight by mail. Not a big issue.

alright guys, I got reffed the other morning in seal beach.

Note: I have had my sti stage 2 for 5 years, it passes smog as is. Intake has carb sticker, CNT quad tipped TBE has 2 HFC and its tuned with cobb AP.

I received VC 27151 and VC 27156. The cop was behind me and we were moving around 5-8 MPH, I was approaching the intersection and the light turned yellow so I stopped. The Police SUV almost rear ended me, cop was calling me a ****ing ******* out of his window. Light turns green and he pulls me over and then proceeds to tell me I should have accelerated and ran the light (hahahaha). then asks what I have done to the car, and to pop my hood. Says tat it smells like a bbq behind my car and there is no way i have any cats, I assured him this wasn't true, and after hearing that he points to my intake and says well this is whats doing it then cause it isnt carb legal. I have a CAI made by aem which is carb legal.

My car passes smog as is, and Im about to sell the vehicle. I'm not sure what my options are, the mods on my car don't fail me at a smog station. The cop wasn't following me for very long at all. I dont know how he could have thought my sti was loud? No tests were performed on site.

if anyone can shed any light or knowledge on my situation i would be very happy, just to know what im "looking at".
