I was thinking $39xxx to start. This is the same with the FR-S. It felt about $3k too much. But I agree about the package and components being worth every part.

Yes, I'm talking about the 2.0. I think the 3.0 is priced appropriately. But $35-40K sounds better for the 2.0, again given the competition (which enthusiasts will care about) and the lack of a BMW badge (which regular people will care about and just buy a Z4 or a 4-series instead in the mid-$40K range). $43K fully loaded is palatable, $43K for a base 2.0 means the top trims will likely get it close to the price of the 3.0.
Or again, like I said, give the 2.0 a manual transmission and that way you'll win over the enthusiasts who are hell-bent on rowing their own gears. But it's hard to see enthusiasts lining up to buy a 2.0 for $43K+ when there are other options out there with more power for less money. A manual transmission might make the 2.0 more enticing given that it's big brother doesn't have that option. |

all I see is a BMW Z4, with the size and revenue of....T O Y O T A! you would think they could have kept the heritage...now legend of the supra alive and come up with a retro design of the mid 90's twin turbo coupe and kept the "supra" proportions and shape....this thing is WAY too long in the front, and the rear spoiler frankly looks ridiculous molded into the Z4 body.
94 twin turbo supra is a better car than this Z4 faker. Sorry but I was and still AM a huge fan of the mid 90's twin turbo supra's I remember sitting in black 94' at the Boston International Auto Show at the Hynes Convention center and being in AWE at the lines and the sleek no nonsense interior. WTF this new one is a Z4! Yuck. Whats next....a rebadged KIA stinger as General Motors TransAm with a shaker hood and T-tops LMAO!!! |

It has less to do with the engine and trans and more about the design of the vehicle. The Supra is a pretty low volume car so them engineering their own power plant likely wouldn’t yield a worthy ROI.

That's harder and possibly more expensive though - which is why people have knocked Toyota for taking the easy way out and just paying BMW to engineer it. |

Toyota/Lexus has a 2.0T, NA V6, V6TT, and NA V8 they could have drawn on for a Supra, they are out of the I6 game so that wasn't going to happen. They have an 8spd auto that isn't as good as a ZF, but is still really good. The problem is that the Lexus chassis', although good at what they do, are heavy because of their luxury bent. A stripped down RC with a Toyota badge isn't going to lose 400lbs, even if they pull out the rear seats; but the OG Supra was a heavy GT car, so this may or may not have mattered to potential Supra buyers (I think it wouldn't have). Could they have done it? Yes Should they have done it? I also think yes Could they have done it for 10k less than the equivalent Lexus RC? I'm not sure they could have. I used the RC and not the LC because the LC ticks into 100k territory real quick, and there is no way we'd see an LC for half the price just because of a badge change. I feel like they did the math and the BMW option was cheaper, so they went with it. |

They should have just Toyota-fied the Lexus LC and stuck the twin turbo V6 in there from the LS500. That's basically what an MK4 was, a shortened wheelbase SC300.

They shouldnt have done it at all then. Its just a rebadged Z4..its not a supra. Cheverolet can pull a mid engine totally new corvette that looks like a supercar exotic out of their A$$ for $60,000 and Toyota cant make a new supra??? LMAO! |

Lots of cheaper cars on that list using the ZF8. That said, it does come down to how the OEM tunes it for their application, but it's a magical unit. --kC |

When Toyota builds an actual supra instead of rebadging someone elses coupe and "calling" it a supra, let me know, this rebadged Z4 fake supra is dumb.

Considering their past two performance offerings have been these same types of "joint ventures", I think it's safe to say Toyota has 0 plans to build an exclusive Toyota offering of this type for the foreseeable future (read: some turnover in management).
Despite being one of the most successful car companies, they seem intent that "we can't manage to build it on our own!" |

Toyota(and every Japanese manufacturer not named Honda) are economy car companies who had a coke bender for a decade, and now people expect them to be the coked out versions of themselves all the time. That era is never coming back, ever. Toyota got big by making economy cars with efficiency and quality. |
