Default New UAW Contract Means Return of Ranger, Bronco

Quote:
New contract, new products. As part of its agreement with the United Auto Workers Union, Ford Motor Co. will invest $9 billion in its U.S. operations and, among other things, that will mean the return of two old nameplates: the Ranger and the Bronco.

It also means that the big Michigan Assembly Plant in the Detroit suburb of Wayne will remain fully operational – something that was far from certain after Ford’s prior announcement that it would be moving several models out of that plant and down to Mexico.

Product News!
Ford’s four-year contract has yet to win ratification, and UAW members have shown a testiness this year that led to the defeat of an initial contract from Fiat Chrysler. Skilled trades workers also rejected their tentative contract at General Motors. But the Ford offer appears to be the most lucrative of any from Detroit’s Big Three and, with the thumbs-up of plant leaders, it could win strong rank-and-file approval.

And, if it does, a variety of new products will be rolling out of plants manned by the 52,700 UAW workers in the U.S. That includes the likely return of the Ranger and Bronco.

The midsize pickup was long a staple of the Ford line-up. But it was pulled from production in 2011, a victim of declining sales and new federal safety rules that would’ve required a major product update. Ford executives were betting that the midsize truck segment would continue to decline – as it had for the last three decades – and that they could continue moving potential buyers over to the bigger and more profitable F-150.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrack bumps the midsize pickup into a higher level of refinement.

They didn’t count on General Motors which had also scrapped its two midsize offerings, the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon. GM brought both back last year to rave reviews and a sharp upturn in sales that has many analysts betting the midsize pickup market is ripe for revival.

Competition is now expected to heat up according to analysts such as Stephanie Brinley of IHS Automotive. Toyota has seen a big surge in demand this year, just as it gets ready to launch a new version of its own Tacoma model. Nissan, meanwhile, is working up a remake of its Frontier pickup.

While Ford has a new version of the Ranger that it markets in many parts of the world, the question is just how much of a change will need to be brought to North America. In current form, CEO Mark Fields previously told TheDetroitBureau.com, the global version is too expensive to produce in order to generate a profit while also maintaining a reasonable gap between a U.S. Ranger and the well-established F-Series.

How Ford will lower production costs is uncertain but it could mean “de-contenting” the American Ranger. The richer design and higher content overseas wasn’t a problem because global demand for the full-size F-Series is minimal, the truck too large for most foreign markets.

As for the Ford Bronco, Chairman Bill Ford Jr. gave a hint of what it could look like a few years back in concept form.

The Ford Bronco was once a leader in the sport-utility segment but was replaced by more car-like models, such as the Ford Explorer. A new Bronco, sources suggest, would be roughly the size of the latest Explorer, but instead of riding on a car-like crossover platform it would share the chassis of the new Ranger pickup.

The interior of the Ranger Wildtrack could be the basis for the maker's new midsize entry.

The U.S. market has strongly shifted away from classic body-on-frame utility vehicles in favor of car-based crossovers. But, as with the move away from midsize pickups, that may have been an over-reaction. Ford apparently believes there’s still a market for a more rugged ute like Bronco.

Ford has yet to provide formal details of the product program it will undertake as part of the new UAW contract. And there are a number of uncertainties, including future plans for the slow-selling Taurus model now built at a suburban Chicago assembly line.

(To see more about Ford’s 128% increase in Q3 earnings, Click Here.)
But barring a big surprise, Bronco and Ranger should soon be rolling out of the Wayne Assembly Plant.

I really couldn't care less about the Bronco, but I like the current Ranger. Given that I might be in the market for a pickup in a few years, I could easily see myself buying that, especially with that interior.

The Bronco concepts looks great!

I really miss my last Bronco--Custom trim level with poverty vinyl/rubber interior seat/floors, crank windows, 5spd man, 5.0, Kayline soft top.

Doubt we'll see that kind of trim level in a new one, unfortunately... .

Default Ford Everest now $7000 cheaper, AUS.

Quote:
Ford Everest now $7000 cheaper

Ford’s popular Everest is now available from $47,990 following the introduction of a new five-seat, rear-wheel drive version of the entry-level Ambiente model grade.

The price is $7000 lower than the cheapest Everest available before, the Ambiente 4WD seven-seater (previously $54,990).

In the absence of a replacement for the Australian-made Territory crossover until the all-new Edge arrives from Canada next year, the move also closes the price gap between Ford’s large off-road SUV and the mid-size Escape priced between $28,490 and $47,490.

Ford added its first rear-wheel drive Everest model last December, when it released the mid-range Trend RWD at $55,990.

Now the addition of RWD Ambiente models in five- and seven-seat form (the latter costing $1000 more at $48,990 plus on-road costs), plus the new Ambient 4WD five-seater ($52,990), brings the number of Everest variants to seven.

All Ambiente models now come with added standard equipment too, including SYNC3 infotainment with 8.0-inch colour touch-screen, dual-zone climate-control, 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, 10-speaker audio and running boards.

There are also price cuts for all pre-existing Everest models, including the $53,990 Trend RWD and $58,990 Trend 4WD seven-seater (both down $2000), and the $74,990 Titanium flagship (down $1715).

While the new five-seat options are limited only to the base Ambiente, the $5000-cheaper RWD system is available only in the Ambiente and mid-spec Trend, with the top-shelf Titanium remaining 4WD and seven-seat only.

All versions of the Australian-developed, Ranger ute-based Everest continue to be fitted with Ford’s 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.

They also come with full-length side curtain airbags, a five-star ANCAP crash rating and the availability of class-leading safety features like Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, Active Park Assist, Rollover Mitigation and Blind-Spot Information with Cross-Traffic Alert.

Like 4WD models, RWD Everests come with 225mm of ground clearance, the same approach and departure angles, and the same 3000kg towing capacity.

Ford launched the facelifted and renamed Escape in February, and will follow the expanded Everest line-up with a revised EcoSport small SUV later this year.

It says its SUV expansion, which will culminate in the Edge in 2018, is in response to unprecedented demand for SUVs, which outsold passenger cars for the first time Australia in February and continued to do so last month.

2017 Ford Everest pricing (plus ORCs):
Ambiente RWD five-seat — $47,990 (new)
Ambiente RWD seven-seat — $48,990 (new)
Ambiente 4WD five-seat — $52,990 (new)
Ambiente 4WD seven-seat — $53,990 (-$1000)
Trend RWD seven-seat — $53,990 (-$2000)
Trend 4WD seven-seat — $58,990 (-$2000)
Titanium 4WD seven-seat — $74,990 (-$1715)

Default 2020 Ford Bronco rendered as Jeep Wrangler fighter

Quote:
Quote:
Ever since the Blue Oval company announced the impending return of the beloved Bronco nameplate, the Internet has been swirling with rumors and most of all renders of how the model might look like.

We’re not indulging usually in this type of speculation, but since the much-anticipated SUV is not coming earlier than 2020, we’re going to ease the wait from time to time with the latest details flying off the rumor mill. The new renders imagine the Bronco as a four-door and also give it a go at the new Air Roof. The styling of course keeps the boxy design that made the original famous – combining the retro touches with modern elements, from classic grille to LED lights.

Beware that such renders aren’t actually based on anything from the company – there aren’t any prototypes to be spied with camouflage so anyone can get at least a general reading of the design traits. We do know the Ford Bronco is going to clash head on with the next generation Jeep Wrangler – and Ford wants to offer the model with removable roof panels that it allegedly calls the Air Roof. The design comes to mix the security of a hardtop and the open-air lifestyle of a convertible. The Bronco is also going to compete the Wrangler thanks to the off-road legacy, and we already know Ford has partnered with the specialists at Dana to source the SUV’s front and rear axles.

From the link
By popular demand, following all the positive feedback from our first 2020 Ford Bronco concept renderings we are excited to share our rendition of a 4-door version of our Bronco rendering to show off the front/rear view and a peek at the expected new "Air Roof" feature.

As we now know from official Ford statements, the sixth generation Bronco will share a modified T6 platform with the 2019 Ford Ranger. Raj Nair recently confirmed the new Bronco will be similar in size to the global Ford Ranger currently offered outside of North America which means a four-door Bronco is a virtual guarantee.

Our four-door 2020 Bronco concept shows an ultra-rugged body-on-frame offroader that is equally at home on both pavement and trail--and with the battle scars to show it. We've retained the classic round headlights and blunt inset grille with retro cues while adding beefed up off-road tires and a 3-inch lift.

The 3/4 rear view shows off the boxy silhouette and straight edged, upright greenhouse with hard retro lines and signature parallelogram-shaped rear side windows and back glass anchored by a higher belt line and tall tailgate. The large protruding rectangular taillights are a modern take on that from the original Bronco.

Peering into the vehicle from the rear view provides a direct line of sight from the sky as insider sources have informed us the 2020 Bronco will feature a removable new "Air Roof" shown here with 3-4 modular roof panels that run nearly the entire length of the vehicle. These panels can be removed and stored in the rear cargo area for open-air off-roading.

The roof structure and pillars are shown in both standard black and body-colored variations and we imagined the 6G Bronco with and without the tailgate-mounted spare tire.

All I see is wrangler unlimited... I think I would prefer the Everest over that lower one. The 4 doors are killing it for me.

Me too.

I guess I am ok with the quasi removable top, but if it is a 4 door, I'd rather buy a Toyota.

Ford released a teaser image of the bronco today. The outline looks pretty cool, I just hope they don't mess it up

I figured we'd get an Everest, looks like I was wrong on that one! Looking at that outline, they appear to be going way back to their roots.

Now I just hope all of those "I'd buy it if" folks follow through to make it worth their while for taking a big risk like this.

Looks to be a two door also. The rear arch is too far forward to allow for a 4 door. Unless the arch is somehow part of the door? Which I doubt because... hello door dings.

The hood is way longer in the covered pic than the artist renderings.

Edit: I *think* I see a B pillar. Hmm... very short doors if that's the case...

Well if you think about it, the Explorer is already filling the role the old Bronco left. I mean aside form the removable this or that. PLUS they cannot keep wranglers on the lot and they sell with almost no markdown.

You can expect Ford to follow the money and make this very jeep like. Only without a crappy jeep interior. If this is priced right, they will a sell a crap load of them.

Doesn't that have something to do with the suspension layout.... Or something.

Didn't the fj cruiser have like a 5000lb tow rating?

If it only comes in a 4 cyl turbo then they can eat it. Otherwise I'll be following through.
Yes, I have an irrational disdain towards them.
