Default 2014 WRX Bluetooth - Auto connect issue?

Curious to see if anyone is having this problem too? I have to manually tell my phone to connect to the car, every time.

I found a thread with the same problem, but it's from 2011, would have hoped that 3 years later, they'd fix the problem:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2226037

I've only ever had the one device hooked up to the car. My old jeep with an aftermarket cheap kenwood head unit connected to the same phone just fine the second the car would start. And my phone also automatically connects to my portable bluetooth speaker no problems.

So I don't think it's my phone...

I'm a computer technician, so electronics are not exactly foreign to me...so I'm fairly sure I set it up correctly? lol. Wondering if maybe there's an auto connect setting I missed or something. Cause I've gone hours, driving in the car, with both the stereo set to bluetooth and the phone bluetooth radio on, and they never connect.

DO you have a nav unit or non-nav? Try connecting through the voice command menu on your steering wheel. SAy "menu" I believe or "setup". I had a similar issue....

The other question would be what type of phone are you using...seems like some phones are tempermental with various bluetooth software in different manufacturers factory head units where as the aftermarket head units seem to be more supportive accross the board. I see it with Mercedes-Benz all the time...

Anyways, my phone (android OS) connects automatically with my 13 every time i turn the key on...every once in a while the phone itself will not connect but its just a matter of turning bluetooth off then back on again in phone menu. I am running a base setup though, no nav/satellite.

If I remeber correctly the first time a paired my phone and was typing in the pass code displayed on the radio, I did check a box to never ask to do this again or something along those lines...you may want to look for that or permissions on your phone.

I'm using a Samsung S4.

I have the basic of the basic of the basic WRX. lol. literally nothing added to the car but a short shifter. haha.

I have the non-nav unit. I'm going to try clearing out the saved paring on my phone and in the car, and then reset up the pairing to see if that helps.

It's driving me nuts.

As I mentioned, do it through the voice activated steering wheel controlled menu. Also make sure it is paired throught the men on the stereo as well.

Do all that but make sure you pair it through the voice commands, it worked for me with my s4.

Sorry I forgot to respond.

You guys were right! I guess when you register the phone manually via the menu, it doesn't pair it the same way as you would with the voice menu. I purged all BT settings on both the car and the phone, and set it up via the voice menu, and now it links automatically perfectly!! Also syncs the phonebook and what not now, even though I never use that feature.

Sorry to resurrect this necro-thread, but just wanted to confirm that this indeed does work for anyone looking for further confirmation if this will help with their situation. I have a 2014 STI and had a Samsung Galaxy S4, S6, and LG V10 that would barely connect to Bluetooth when they had been paired manually.

When I removed them as saved bluetooth devices and then added them back in, using the voice prompt menu instead, they connect flawlessly now. Don't know why it makes a difference using the voice menu, but it absolutely does. The only thing I will mention is that I rebooted the phones after pairing because they just stayed at "Connecting..." in the bluetooth menu on the phone until I did. After that I was golden.

I'm having an issue with my 2014 Impreza and two different iPhones on iOS 10 and iOS 11 betas. the one phone, my wifes, has been both voice paired and manually paired to the OEM radio numerous times. it will connect initially as it should when we get in the car, but randomly will cut out and disconnect itself. it won't reconnect on its own usually, sometimes for 20 mins. even by scrolling through the audio menu, it won't detect a bluetooth device. then sometimes randomly it will reconnect out of nowhere. is anyone else having this issue? started after using iOS 10, which apparently apple did something with the bluetooth stack in iOS which effected numerous other car manufacturers. i don't know if the oem radio needs a firmware update or the way it gets paired to the phone makes a difference or not.

Nope never fixed it. Still cutting out and sometimes freezes. Gonna have to bring it to the dealer and see if there’s a warranty replacement that can be made.

I’m also having this issue recently. Where the connection drops randomly and takes awhile to connect again. Anyone find a solution thanks.
