![]() Can anyone help me with this? I would like to subsribe to Sirius for their XM radio. I don't want to changeout the headunit or buy a new one. Has anyone done this yet? Please let me know if this route is feasible and economical.
Thanks Nick

![]() For one thing you can't get XM by subscribing to Sirrus. XM is it's own company and so is Sirrus. You can buy an Alpine XM tuner box (TUAT020XM) and add on the fm modulator (CRA1667RF) to make it work with your stock radio. Kind of defeats the purpose of getting digital satellite radio then running it fm modulated. I'd buy a radio that is XM ready if I were you.

![]() First, Sirius and XM are two distinct services, you either subscribe to one or the other and their hardware is not compatible-
As for using your existing HU, you can get an FM modulator type adapter that will receive the satellite signal and retransmit it to an available frequency on your FM tuner. I know these are available for XM, not sure about Sirius. The downside of doing it this way is the quality won't be as good, more like a really clean FM station rather than CD quality. The limiting factor is the quality of the FM receiver in your present HU, and unfortunately the stock HU isn't that great in that department. On the other hand it's cheaper to do it this way and you still get to enjoy the commercial-free content. |
