GR-Four means AWD. You can see the flares on the rear door and quarter panel. They donít look like the GR Yaris flares that are full metal, though. Hence my comment about stick on flares.

That image was from a pre-edit of a Toyota USA IG post.

Since we are living the darkest timeline, I just had a thought***8230; what if Toyota pulls a ***8216;22 WRX and does unpainted flares. Please, no.
I'm guessing this is similar to the current Type R with plastic flare in the back and new flared metal fenders in the front. Probably too much money to flare out the rear fenders which would necessitate new rear doors. Little chance they aren't painted as I'm sure Toyota won't want to soil the GR name. It's pretty clear this car is going to come with AWD as they are practically advertising it with this car. Looks like this car is very close to a reveal.

I really hope this gets the best of the GR Yaris drivetrain, diffs. Now this also needs the lightening components that the GR Yaris has as well to make this a great enthusiast car. If it is just the GR Yaris drivetrain and none of the lightening components. Such as heavy use of Aluminum and CF roof. I am not sure I will be sold on this and will probably just look at the new GR86/BRZ being my next purchase.

I do feel like part of this plan is to give Subaru something to point at when people angrily scream HATCH at them.

I'd be surprised if those are 18" wheels. They look tiny in that pic considering the size of the car. Nothing wrong with lighter, better riding car though.

The Corolla GR hatch will offer something many want in the US.

There is no A45 (hatch)
There is no S3 (hatch)
There is no M140i (hatch)
There is no Focus RS (hatch)
There is no MazdaSpeed 3 (hatch)

I bet they will sell out of their allocations, just like the Yaris.

I'd honestly dump my IS350 for one (with diffs).

I was pretty ready to go PHEV/BEV/hybrid commuter, but the GR Corolla keeps reeling me back in. Just one last 6MT ICE.

I want to be responsible and not get the first model year or pay more than MSRP, but then, you know, emotions. I'm preparing my wallet for the rape brigade.

I think you have to take what you can get as I don't think there will be many made as they are going to be made at the same facility where the GR Yaris is made, hand built by a custom vehicle team.

Yeah precisely. I think some on here will claim they won't pay ADM, but I think the real question will be how much ADM are you willing to pay?

By the time this car comes out I'll have been out of the performance AWD manual game for 10 years. The thirst is real.

I donít think we know that yet. Carrying the same basic body as the Corolla HB, I expect that it will come down the line with the standard Corolla HB.

None. Have never paid it. Detest the practice. And detest any idiot that does pay it for any car. If everyone would refuse then nobody would have to pay it. They said the Focus RS could not be bought for less than MSRP. 9 months later I paid under invoice. If chip shortages persist, limiting availability then you just wait it out. Iíll wait 2.5 years if need be. Some of us donít care about first. Like a film that comes out. I donít care what it is, Iíll wait until 4k disc is available to rent. It never ceases to amaze me how people will part with thousands of their hard earned money for nothing. Some of us are just consumers while these idiots are super consumers.

Sometimes it's not about being "first". It's about demand. You could be waiting an awfully long time if you aren't willing to pay what others will.

We all spend gobs of money on things we want that others don't find desirable. I'm not into sports, so it amuses me, personally, to see someone dedicate an entire room in their home to a sports team. Now imagine if that same money was spent paying an extra $1k on a car that one could enjoy sooner than, say, 2.5 years.

I always enjoy these thought exercises, but the bottom line is that we won't know until the time comes what we'll actually do. Ideally, if I could wait until mid-2023 then I could pay for a $40k car outright. Just gotta see if that's something I'm willing to do when the time comes. I might want to invest those funds elsewhere, circumstances permitting.

If the GR Corolla sticks around for a while then the value could drop considerably, which would be awesome. Can't wait to see what the aftermarket does for this thing.

The difference between someone spending a bunch of money on a fandom room (and I'd be careful there as you spend a lot on superho) and ADM is the sports nut isn't affecting other enthusiasts. Everyone that pays ADM screws their fellow enthusiasts.

The chip shortages will eventually go away. It's great to have emotions and passion towards something. It should end when signing on a dotted line for tens of thousands. Year 1 of anything new, any FMC or new model is going to be nuts right now. I want and ready for a new performance machine. I've already resigned to late 2023 at the earliest and most likely 2024.

I expect 3 model years of the GR Corolla. The current chassis came out as MY19. It will get a refresh for MY23. That would be 7 years on this design which is longer than Toyota usually lets their sedans go.

The TNGA-C platform was brand new with this design, so I expect that the Corolla will get another generation on this platform. Based on that the G16 could carry over to a next gen.

Toyota GR Corolla details further leak ahead of production
But will it come this year or next?
https://www.autoblog.com/2022/01/20/...onfirmed-leak/

Quote:
The Drive's source inside Toyota's dealer network has been spilling secrets again. Last time, the source told the outlet that a Toyota Supra with a manual transmission is "confirmed" and could be here as soon as this year. This time the subject sticks to the sporty side and with confirmation of rumors, these having to do with the GR Corolla. It's not so much that there's new information here, but that a claimed insider is corroborating what we've heard. The dealer source says the automaker put a camouflaged prototype of the hot hatch on display at the same Las Vegas event last year where a manual Supra supposedly made an appearance.

The car will be called either the GR Corolla or the Corolla GR-Four. If the latter name makes the cut, the number will apply to the all-wheel-drive system, not the engine. The 1.6-liter three-cylinder is expected to do nigh-on 300 horsepower and send power through the Yaris' six-speed manual transmission and mechanical AWD setup with a center differential and varying torque splits front-to-back.

The hatchback version will be the only one on offer at first, and perhaps for good, wearing a "widebody look" with a revised bumper in front and either two or three exhaust tips in back. Other reports have claimed two outlets, The Drive's source said three, which would make a nice point of emphasis on what is already a highly anticipated exclamation point of a car. For comparison, the regular Toyota Yaris doesn't show any exhaust tips, the GR Yaris sports two. On the rear of the standard Corolla hatch, a body-colored, diffuser-mimicking insert features two exhaust finisher-looking pieces that are so narrow they could be mistaken for random ornament. Another report also mentioned something along the lines of "aero tweaks later reported to be a mock diffuser."

Strangely, the source wasn't sure the hatch would make it here by the end of the year. Seeing that production-looking prototypes have been teased a few times already, we would be most disappointed to wait until calendar-year 2023 for a market launch. An MSRP somewhere in the mid-$30,000s, giving the GR Corolla plenty of room to the GR86 below and 2.0-liter Supra above ó as well as the $45,000 Volkswagen Golf R ó remains the prediction.
Nothing ground breaking...

The reality is that "dealer source" means someone that's not in the know. Dealers know nothing about this car. Toyota has not given them any information yet.

If it's not the EJ, there's a good chance we'll get the 1.6 4 banger turbo and hybrid setup the WRC car will be running. 500 hp!!!
