Elfen Lied is a great series - but contains a ton of violence, gore, and a gratuitous amount of nudity.

You can grab episode 1 on youtube. The first 7 minutes of episode 1 contains an insane amount of violence and gore (plus a nude chick walking around).

Wow, that is fandom right there. I'm as white as bill clinton's ass so I don't think most Anime names would work for my potential kids.

That's actually pretty sweet. Just enough of a tribute for a fan to recognize, without going 'full geek'. Maybe orange tint = FCL fluid?

I'm an anime geek too, but I'm much more into the hard sci-fi/mecha stuff, especially from "Kill 'Em All" Tomino (UC Gundam).

Outside of my norm, I found Berserk...it was quite entertaining, and eerily enough, my gf looks like caska.

I'm actually suprised that Elfen Lied didn't get pulled off youtube for the nudity

Another vote for Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell. I'm currently going through the Last Exile series; great visuals and an interesting story/world.

Akira's a good one. Also, check out Steamboy & Freedom, if you haven't already.

This series would have been better if they could make it through five minutes of an episode without doing a pizza hut promo

Thread revival!

RideBack is a new anime that deserves some attention. You'll need to hunt for fansubs to watch it right now as it's still being aired in Japan (and/or may have had its final episode either today or next Monday).

Set in 2025, the main character is a university student who quit ballet at the height of her world-famous career after tearing a ligament in a performance. She discovers these mecha called RideBacks - think motorcycle with arms - and by accident, learns that she is a natural for them because of her agility/prowess. There's also a significant backstory that stands to take over the main plot about halfway through (that's as far as I am right now).

New seasons and series seem to be starting up.

From first episodes only, these look promising:
Asura Cryin' (robots, ghosts, mafia, magic, etc.)
Eden of the East (ENGLISH!, terrorists, memory loss)'
Shagri La (dunno yet, seems cool though)
Basquash (robot basketball...yeah).

RideBack was good, though short - only 12 episodes. Another good one right now is Birdy The Mighty. It's in the 2nd season right now of a TV-series remake of an OVA (direct-to-video) series from the 90s. A superwoman federal police officer chases some aliens to Earth, to apprehend them, and in the course of the fight, accidentally kills a teenaged boy. Her boss directs her to put his body in a device that will resurrect it, and in the meantime, orders her to allow the boy to live his normal life by carrying his mind/soul along in her body. They share one body and can change it back and forth between their forms at will, if both of them agree to the change, but the boy has a hard time maintaining a normal life, since he's trying to become acquainted with a girl friend, yet at the same time, has to give the federation cop her form at the drop of a hat so she can go chase the bad guys.

I just finished watching all of Rideback the other night, it was pretty good.
Definitely too short, wish they would make another 30 or more.
Think I will find the Elfen Lied series to watch next.

I saw the first half an episode of rideback, jsut struck me as yet another one of "those" type of animes.

When i had time on my hand id watch anything but nowadays im trying to keep it slimmed down to only the best. With this in mind
