4k content is coming. I haven't seen confirmation that 4k HDR content is coming. Therefore paying $texas^H texas$ for a HDR set makes little sense.

By "bought" do you mean got your wife to put it in her purse at the restaurant?

My ex had a problem with that. Pint glasses and salsa / dip dishes mostly. I really don't know how she did it so often. Servers either pay absolutely no attention to what they carry to a table, or just don't care because busting someone interferes with the tip.

No, I was at a restaurant supply depot over the weekend to do some bulk buying for a long beach weekend coming up. I bought a 10lb box of frozen meatballs, 48 grass fed burgers, a 40 pack of Nathan's hot dogs and 2 10lb pork shoulders for pulled pork. Also picked up a case of Cholula Chili-Garlic for personal consumption.

From what little I remember, because I was thinking about waiting for a HDR set before buying mine.. But I think there are 2 standards of HDR right now, Dolby Vision and something else. So I am not sure a standard has even been settled upon.

Nits is just the measurement related to the brightness the display needs to have, to create the high contrast range of HDR.

But as far as a "must have to future proof" at this point, IMO you can be pretty safe buying a set without it and wait for the manufacturers to polish the standard and how it is displayed. The way prices drop lately and the way tech moves down to the bottom tier products year after year, you can have an affordable set with great PQ now. Then when the HDR tech has evolved some and the content is availabe. You can get another reasonably priced set that is likely a better display all around.

Yeah but by that point there'll be Super HDR or Ultra HDR or Super Ultra Deluxe HDR II Platinum Edition. And you're regular HDR just won't cut it.

Sure, newer technologies come out all the time. But, buying a 1080 TV now could very well have you telling yourself in a year from now, "Man, I wish I would have spent the extra $300 or so dollarbucks now that all this 4K content is here and I can't see it." To each his own though. Personally, I'm just sticking with my old 1080 TVs until they die. But, if I were in the market for a new one right now I'd be foolish to buy another 1080 TV.

I knew one of you would notice. You get a tattoo touched up, your arm gets shaved. It looked weird to have a hairy hand and shaved arm.

That's why I said you can be safe buying a set without it.

Besides, when they figure it out and you buy your set with the finalized standard. The next years model will still have something better whether it be options or PQ. IMO no point in waiting or you'll never buy and never enjoy it. The best only seems to remain the "best" for a few years at most.

My 65" will be delivered Wednesday, it was $900 and the same size 4k model was $1500, so 65% price increase for a feature that isn't mature.

Plus I sit just over 9' away, for 4k to really be utilized I'd need an even bigger TV for that viewing distance .

I'll get an 80" oledhdrxxxk in a few years for that $600 plus a few, not worried about being an early adopter.

Ok I'll bite. Why do you need this? What purpose does it serve, other than making the bottles bulkier? A ketchup & mustard caddy makes sense, but when do you specifically need two kinds of Tabasco, but can't just carry the two little bottles by themselves?

When you take your hot sauce as seriously as you take other condiments of course! I get it. I'm just too cheap to buy a caddy of any kind. Mother****ers can take the ****ing condiments off the counter!

He said he bought it at a restaurant supply company. Meaning it is normally used by servers and cleaning staff. As for why "he" bought it, well why did you have that bitchin' miller light bar light in your dorm room?

I imagine it's for the kitschy factor, not the utility.

I bought a new ducati and it hasn't broken down.

It must be broken. I should take it in to the dealer.

I wasn't serious with my question. I was thinking of getting a 60" ultra hd 4k panasonic though for 1400, instead of a 40" reg tv.

Because I can, mother****er.

Besides, for the price of two bottles of Tabasco, it came with a free caddy that has a football on top of it that says TABASCO. Worth the price of admission.

Out with the old, in with the new (map data). My current neighborhood, built out around 2005, now exists. Of course, my new house's neighborhood will be a blank space until probably the 2017 map update...

As a side note, figuring out where the navigation DVD drive was located wasn't easy. Here's the scoop: http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2007.../#post-9895329

Does that DVD drive under the seat have any function other than updating the NAV system?

Nope, it's just for the navi. Center console has separate 6 disc changer CD/DVD drive that plays to the neither very big nor high resolution navigation display.

Having the DVD system is actually nicer for upgrading than the modern systems. $45 for a disc from eBay + 10 minutes time once I figured out what the hell I was looking for.

In contrast, the wife's RAV4 EV is updated this way: http://www.myrav4ev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=921

Quote:
1) Toyota distributes its software upgrade to dealers shortly after January 1st of each year. Although the upgrade is dated 6/1/13, my dealer just got it. When you get an upgrade installed, make sure that you get the latest version.

2) For your $169 (plus tax), Toyota (via Denso) gives you a card with a pass code. Thats it.

3) The upgrade requires your dealers service department to hook up its computer to your Toyota, and then you enter your VIN, the passcode, and information from the INFO:MAP DATA screen on the center console. The computer then gives you another 8 digit passcode.

4) Your dealer inserts a USB flash drive into the USB port on the center console, you enter the passcode, and you wait

5) After 10 minutes, you are instructed to restart the car, and then you wait another 46 minutes. All this time the USB drive is inserted and possibly the computer has to be attached (instructions weren't clear).

6) Thus after more than an hour, you are instructed to restart the car again, and Voila! the new map is installed.

7) Unfortunately, my dealer charges $105/hr for use of the computer, and therefore the total cost is $274 plus tax.
