It's blasphemy but Peet's is pretty good considering I can buy it before 6am on my way to the office

It's not blasphemy, I sometimes stop at peets on my way to work and enjoy a couple espressos. Drip-wise though, while it IS fresh, there's no comparison...

Haha, that's not the problem. The problem is that it's $100 but grinds like it's $50. An Encore is $40 more, and will out grind, and outlast that thing.

Refurb encores do come up for $100.

not sure why this one is $50 off right now, but if you're just grinding for drip, or FP, get this guy:

It's $50 off because it's a $70 grinder. it's definitely fine, but the encore is a way better choice and will last longer and be serviceable long after the capresso isn't. If that's what budget allows though, definitely do it.

Default Coffee FAQ v. 2.0 - The Master Coffee Thread

Iíve got the OXO one that is $65 and itís been doing well for quite a while. I canít compare to other burr grinders but it does work better than other blade grinders Iíve had.

Ive heard the OXO grinds a bit better than the Capresso, but breaks frequently.

I bought the OXO a couple weeks and it is a very good grinder for drip, pour over, FP... but I can't get my grinds fine enough for my current batch of espresso roast.

I'm actually thinking of selling it for a little less than what I paid so if any of you are interested let me know.

Ironically, my previous grinder is the above mentioned $70 Capresso Infinity. I was able to modify it to grind finer and also to function steplessly, and I can choke down my Gaggia no problem with grinds from it on its finest setting and dial it in pretty well for espresso with every bean I've thrown at it. Consistency isn't terrible either.

BTW my Capresso grinder has been running like a champ for about 5yrs

You should still get a real espresso grinder, at some point.

Can you hold 2 lbs for me? I'll prob be ordering in 2-3 weeks time. Not sure if my parents (who are staying with me starting this Wed) will drink coffee, in which case definitely ordering in 2 weeks.

btw, the Sumatra is heavenly - so ridiculously smooth. Wife opened it up and made a chemex with it today.

Sure thing!

I'm glad you like the Sumatra, it's a great one. Better than most Sumatras, that's for sure.

Yeah, I had it again this morning. It's amazing how simplistic it is to make - i.e. I just didn't give a damn about precision (chemex again) and it was one of my more favorite cups I've had.

I made some nitro coffee today with my whipped cream maker. Turns out even if the thing is mostly full of coffee, a single nitro charge is still a bit excessive. I'd recommend bleeding some pressure off the top (into a balloon, whatever, I'm not gonna judge) before dispensing. Otherwise, prepare for some high pressure foam that immediately fills your glass!

Once it finally settles and turns back into coffee though, it is indeed quite smooth and creamy, and even a little sweet.

I've only tried nitro a few times, and haven't enjoyed it, but I'd like to try it with my coffee. It's probably a coffee issue, not a process issue.
