I believe the 659 only has Quantum, not Quantum X
The 659 is the regular P Series with Quantum

All the P series have Quantum dot. Also, they gave the M series a model with Quantum dot.

the "regular" P is replaced by the TV I bought. P659-G1

That TV is $1400 vs the PX @ $2200

I'm still not sure what a NIT is. However, I do like that my TV can adjust its brightness based on the room light level. It also has audio normalizing, which I hope helps with the super-loud commercials.

I have a Q8FN. It's okay. Significantly better contrast than the Sony 950G I had, but equal in pretty much every other way. Makes a decent dedicated gaming display thanks to VRR, but I wouldn't recommend it for critical viewing at the cost of entry. Either go cheaper (Vizio, TCL) or way more expensive (OLED).

The new Q80 and Q90 have super anti-reflective coatings and a layer for wide viewing angles despite being VA panels. The wide angle filter works from what I saw at Best Buy. But they're straight up expensive for LCDs, and you're basically already in OLED territory.

The Q70 looks good, but as Reflex says, it's twice the price of either a TCL 6 or Vizio P and very comparable to my eyes.

Q60 is edge lit, and not really in the same league, imo.

I took this with my iPhone 8 Plus with 4k 60fps

The iPhone 8 Plus doesn't record as high of a bitrate as say the Go Pro Hero 7 - Black unfortunately

Barnes and Noble has 40% off on select Blu Rays including UHD titles. They also have 20% off when you use code FATHERSDAY and free shipping over $35.

I got Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar and Cabin In The Woods for $38.00. Not a bad deal and there's a bunch of good titles although some of them are still over $20 even with the 40% off.

Recently watched Spiderman Into the Spiderverse and First Man. Both of them were amazing to watch visually and acoustically. The colors in Sideman were just jaw dropping.

I rented the DV version of Spiderverse via Vudu when it was cheap recently. It did look great but the scenes where it was purposefully blurry just bothered me. Half the movie looked like you were watching a 3d movie without the glasses.

How nerdy are you about your 4k and HDR? Looking for what is likely going to be the best demo and calibration disc available? I got you.

https://www.biaslighting.com/product...d-blu-ray-disc

I've owned and used their HD version for years. It's the best calibration disc available. I'm excited to see them product a UHD version. I preorded mine!

I would like to see your process and results.

I was just looking at Calman software.
It is display specific and needs the hardware for calibration. I already got the Spyder5 which I use for my PC and works with Calman.
Software is still new and lots of problems from what Ive read.
Read in AVS about what people set in their TVs after calibration, and for my Sony, changes were so minimal that I didnt see a need for purchasing this app.
Main reason I was looking into this is to calibrate other TV modes, like the Game mode.
Ill just pop a movie in and calibrate by eye.

gripe: wish the Sony had a button to set Game mode. As it is, I have to change it manually by going into the settings.

Thanks. I'm running 7.1.4 (soon to be 7.2.4) and Blade Runner 2049 is my Atmos reference disc. But I rented Aquaman 4k a few weeks ago and it's now my video reference disc. The colors are incredible, and it's the best visually 4k disc I have seen now. Ordered. Thanks for posting that link.

I know that reference disc =/ good movie but I watched Aquaman in 4K and didn't feel it was reference quality video. Maybe because I was surprised by the poor CG but it didn't scream to me to be a demo disc

I've starting seeing 1/2 inch vertical bars in the picture of my 2016 Sony Bravia 4k TV. I did opt for the service plan from Best Buy at the time of purchase. A Geek Squad tech is coming today to see if it's serviceable or not.

Not sure how the replacement part of the plan works if this TV can't be fixed. I suspect that, based on what they told me over the phone when I called in, that if one of the edge lit LED's is out, it's not fixable and I'll be getting a new TV.

Maybe a new 950G in your future?

___

On an unrelated note, I finally got around to watching Batman (1989) on UHD BR. Spectacular transfer! This movie has never looked so good, and the Atmos track was a huge bonus. I highly recommend picking this up on the cheap.

Current Sony is a 65 inch 850B. At the time, OLED's were 4-5k for a comparable model. IIRC we paid 3k for it with the service plan.

It appears that the cost of OLED's has started to come down. Are they still worth it over standard LED?

The 950G doesn't appear to be an OLED and it's on sale for $1800 right now for a 65. There's an OLED XBR65A1E for $2200 now.

Do you watch a lot of cable news or other programming with static on screen elements? If so, beware burn in with the A1E. Either way, given the choice, that would be my pick.

Tech just left. The line that I noticed and he saw isn't bad enough to do anything about at this time, and I have to agree with him. I noticed it because I'm a bit of an AV geek (well, more so than your average person). We have about 14 months left on the geek squad protection, so since it just started, likely that it'll just get worse over time, I just hope that happens before the plan expires.

That's ok, cuz TV's will just get better and cheaper by then!

you got a pic?
first post you made it sound like it was really bad, so Im curious.

I once had some weird thing happen on my TV (Sony x900e). I just rebooted it (android TV) and it worked itself out.

Yeah, I think my original post made it sound worse than it is. I don't have a good pic, I'll try and get one, but I do have to try and get a good pic, which I guess was his point, it we have to try and get a pic of it then it's not that bad.

I wonder if turning it on/off a hundred times a day will make sure that it gets worse?
