Whining Noise From Engine Bay
Any guesses based on sound? 66k miles, 2013 base WRX hatch. Possibly idler pulley? Let's see if it'll let me post a short video

Sounds like alternator. Pull the belt (engine off) and try again.
Most common in front are, AC compressor, alternator, PS pump belt pulley. Sorta in that order. Belt off, spin stuff by hand. Should be smooth, not rough or gritty. |

I second that opinion. Definitely sounds like alternator or power steering pulley. Belts are cheap so I would replace it. While it’s off see if there is any play

Bump for alternator pulley. Sounds like my Impreza did.
