I'm lazy, here are some jumps;

Wheels

[Overview]

This is a continuation from my old car.

https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2722710

I have a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX GR (Hatch) Satin White Pearl

When I got it back in 2016, it looked like this...

I'm the second owner. I bought it with ~75k miles, bone stock, for $21.5k.

It's a base model with some options.

Options:

Premium Sound (tweeters)
Aux and USB inputs
Bluetooth
Homelink Mirror
SPT catback
Fog Lights
Tinted windows
Rubber Cargo Tray

Issues:

It seems obvious that a battery exploded in it. There's acid and corrosion all over the driver's side of the engine bay. This became an issue as the #2 coil harness seemed to corrode and short and kill the #2 coil pack. Harness and pack have been replaced. Apparently '11+ packs are different and difficult to get. That was annoying.

Outside of that the car is mint. I almost feel bad about the **** I plan to do to it.

Almost.

2 days after purchase...

I also had a theme song for the old car. I think I've figured out a proper them
e song for this one.

[Beginning]

9/8/2016 THURSDAY

Bought the car! They gave it to me without any gas! First picture I took of it.

9/9/2016 FRIDAY

Already taking the car apart.

Changed the seat, brake pads, wheels/tires and put some decals on it.

Why?

9/10/2016 SATURDAY

I was going to take it to the racetrack of course.

My car now matches my roommate's car. Among other things...

I didn't have time/notice to take the car to a mechanic for an inspection. I considered the weekend at the track doing an Italian tune up to be acceptable.

I'd say the Italian tune up was successful.

On my way home I picked up an AccessPort and 24mm front sway bar.

This is going to be a hell of a ride...

This is very interesting to see you come from a similar NA chassis to this. I am sure many thing feel familiar and I'm sure many more do not. With power being a major difference of course, were there other things about the new car that surprised you? Like suspension, steering response, or overall noise? Good on you mate, great choice.

It's almost completely the same car. It's like I never left my old car. The only parts from the old car that I can't put on this one are the front sway bar and the exhaust. But even then, I could technically put the exhaust on. But it would leave the driver's side open.

Two things that have surprised me have been how much speed it can carry through corners and how much fuel it can consume. Completely stock suspension, it can carry more speed than the old car that had some well tuned suspension on it. It also goes through more expensive fuel literally twice as fast.

I joked about getting another NA and my friends were not pleased. I had explored all the reasonable things to do with an NA, it was time to move on.

I was able to immediately achieve things with this car that I couldn't with the NA. When I bought the NA, I wanted a white one. With the NA, I learned that beige interior was invented by the devil. 265hp is much more appropriate than 170hp (still not enough though).

At the end of the weekend the new car started doing things that the old car was quite proficient at...

after putting it back together, I found that I have wore a bit of a hole into the fender liner.

With that put back together I got to installing more things from the old car.

GT Spec wheel, Cobb short shifter, STi leather knob, and I mounted up the access port.

I had also gotten my hands on a Cobb SF Intake.

Installing that stupid thing was more work than I thought it would be. But the sounds it makes are amazing.

The car was getting real hot at the track. Decided that Mi****imoto would be the answer.

Install was pretty easy and straight forward. Easier than taking a decent picture even.

Now it's ready to go back to the track!

Second weekend was a good time.

Oil cooler didn't seem to make a difference.

And I ran out of brakes again.

Did a brake change between sessions.

But at least I wasn't have as bad a day as some other people.

On the second day, I found that one of my friends had a really great wheel chock.

At the end of it all I noticed some wear on my gloves.

At the track I swapped in a set of Project Mu brake pads that my roommate had. The Carbotechs I had ordered hadn't been delivered at that time.

Of course, they showed up the following Monday.

Tried the XP20 this time out.

I also got a set of brake lines.

But the hardline nuts didn't want to budge so I couldn't get the lines installed.

A few days later while driving down the freeway, the fender liner decided that it didn't want to be in the fender anymore.

I feel that Indira Varma captured my reaction quite well...

Went back out and retrieved the pieces. (Don't do this. This was stupid.)

The fender vent had some scratches but I was able to pop it back on.

The liner itself was a total loss.

And then it happened...

The Symptom: Cylinder #2 wasn't firing at all.

The Cause: Well...

When I got the car I found a receipt for a new battery from January 2016. I noticed some corrosion in the battery area. It seems that a battery prior to the current one had exploded. There's acid corrosion all over the driver's side of the engine bay. It seems some acid got on to the connector for the coil on cylinder #2. This caused a short which killed the coil and melted the connector. It took 2 weeks just to get a new coil and connector. But while my mechanic was in there, he did a compression and leakdown test on #2 and #4 which came back great. So at least I learned that that half of the engine is healthy.

I'm still getting caught up. The car was down for the first two weeks of October. It's been running great since then.

After the coil and plug were fixed, the car went back up into the air. But this time under my terms.

Installed 24mm Whiteline sway bars front and rear and an Invidia Q300 catback.

I like the Q300 may more than that stupid SPT. And I later found out that I set the front bar to the stiff setting for some reason. I haven't fixed that yet.

Shortly after that I got some more goodies.

In an effort to get more black things, I got a Cobb radiator shroud and alternator cover.

I had a yellow Prova mirror in the old car that I loved. But I had to leave that mirror on the car. I got a sweet blue one for this car.

Got rid of the stupid homelink mirror in the process.

I also got some LEDs... Inside...

And out.

And finally got some rain guards.

I had Bayson R guards on the old car and hated that they were purple. I was debating OEM but decided that I wanted to try something more low profile. So, I picked up a set from Auto Ventshade. They're ok. They look pretty good but they don't function very well.

Finally got the car out for some AutoX... Holy **** does the stock suspension suck. It was decent on the track but absolutely unruly at AutoX.

I need better suspension if I want to do more AutoX with this thing.

Got around to addressing the badges.

Removed the rear badges.

To keep with the, make more things black, theme. I got a pair of Limited Edition Black fender badges.

I still need to remove the grille badge. That one is going to be a PITA.

Installed my gauge pods. No gauges yet. I do have the AP adapter and the gauges from the old car. I wanted to see if I would like the pillar pod before I went through and ordered all the gauges.

Hit a milestone.

Came up on a guy unloading his 2.5i bodywork. Got his hood and spoiler for free!

Got the hood home and it's in great shape.

Picked up a diffuser on impulse. It was way more challenging to install than I thought. But I got it on.

Almost smashed it the very next day.

At this point, the car was getting pretty ripe.

My wheels are supposed to be bright silver. I think it's safe to say that all the black-ness on the car is brake dust.

A few months before the white hood was up, there was a red hood. Listed for $20 but really far away. I had a friend who was close to it. I asked him to buy it for me and hold on to it until either one of us was going to make the trip and could deliver it. My friend had that hood for some time. A week after bringing home the white hood I made the trip and got the red hood. I transported it the same way that I did with the white hood. Apparently I got lucky with the white hood. A few miles from home disaster struck. The red hood flipped over and did quite a bit of damage.

Here's how the hood came out. It's totally trashed.

When it flipped, it body slammed the back of the car. It smashed the antenna down and dented the roof.

The spoiler was smashed.

Smashing the spoiler did a few things. The spoiler itself was broken into a few pieces with most of the mounting points broken off. With the way it twisted, it pulled up on the mounting holes on the hatch. On top of that, the sides pushed into the body adding dents on either side.

But that's not all of it. When the hood flipped, it twisted the rear crossbar of the rack. This caused the landing pads to dent the roof rails.

I haven't taken it in for a repair quote. I don't want to know how much the damage is in a dollar amount. I know that the only part that can actually be fixed in the dent from the antenna. The dents in the body would have to be filled. Although I have been on the hunt for a new spoiler.

Luckily I have the 2.5i spoiler. I put that on in the meantime.

I actually kinda like it. I think it makes the car look wider.
