I was thinking about doing some sort of setup with the factory HU, but I got a 3300BT for $350 and gained BT and all the other options.

I had a stoch HU though so it wasn't worth spending $$$ on products like the clean sweep. If I had factory Navi and BT, I think the clean sweep or a product like it would make financial sence because you can't get an aftermarket HU with Navi and BT for $300, you could spend the money saved on better speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofers.. and if you keep the factory HU, you definitely need something like that to clean up the sound.

Yikes to that shipping box!

Just to clarify, that is a JDM type AV dash kit, right?

If you're surprised about the box, you should've seen the inside. Literally nothing protecting the headunit box.

And yes, that is the JDM dash bezel from avojdm. http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=153

Glad it all worked out. Did you pay with a credit card on that site? I see the price is listed as 4967 Yen (about $60)

Can someone with a dealer who's talented at using Subaru's parts system ask them to figure out if there are any color options besides 66065SC130 available in the US? Remember to check both Impreza and Forester.

That JDM kit looks really good, but I finished my 3300BT install yesterday and with the kit from Crutchfield, I think it looks sweet too.

If you’re wiring in a bypass, you will need to connect this also. Mine has a green wire that goes to the light green Parking Brake signal wire on the Pioneer harness, a red accessory power wire, black ground, and blue remote wire that connects to the “remote” signal wire on the Pio harness.
I finally got my 4400 over the weekend (woohoo!) but i got a little tripped up on the bypass wiring. The green bypass wire goes to the hot green wire with the red clamp on the pio harness? And the blue bypass wire I didn't see anything in the manual similar to a "remote" wire. I was in a bit of a rush last night trying to wire this up before my 3hr drive back home but it got late and I had to stop before I could finish/figure it out. I apologize if I'm missing something obvious but if anyone can give me a hand that'd be awesome. I'd love to get this thing in tonight after work!

mine was green to green (i cut off the red tap), remote wire should have a white stripe and a label that says something like "system remote control" attached on the pioneer harness.

Does anyone know, if I buy the JDM dash trim piece, do I need to purchase any other kind of dash kit to put the radio in, or will it just go in with that alone?

Nothing else to buy. You just need to relocate some clips (5 i think), the vents and use the brackets from the stock H/U. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Say what you will, but this was a reasonable pain in the ass haha (probably because I was rushing the hell out of the process and it was my first go at this).

Well it's in. I don't have a disc out here but I'm pretty sure I the brake bypass is setup (I got the "press okay if your car is in park" message), and the SwC work. BT SWC are defaulted to track/station up/down and mute, just like others have had.

I notice some high pitch noise when im flipping through the menus and no sound goign through the system, so sooner or later i'l have to take it out and check the connections. I ended up not soldering since I wanted to make sure it worked first, so now maybe I'll go ahead and do that. As far as BT, my buddy couldn't hear me on BT call but I'm not sure yet if that was a bad signal area or if it's my mic setup (or lack there of). BT music sounds pretty solid.

I took the vents out for the extra space.... WORST mistake ever for me . I can't get it back in for the LIFE of me. I said screw it and just tacked everything back in for the time being without the vent piece back there. My issue is that once the center vent piece was removed, both sides of the vent (in the dash) pushed out into the center. Trying to get the vent piece back in the dash is near impossible now. Might snap some pics later to help show my issue.

badz! deep breath, dude......
first install is always a bit of a pain in the ass.
reprogramming the BT SWC will only take a couple minutes.

not sure what to say for the high pitch noise you're hearing. good idea to check connections as you said

Where is your BT mic located? and not trying to be a smartass, but is it plugged in and if so, is it in the correct jack?

As for your vents, i had that issue also, the first time. Easy solution: of the 2 pieces of the vent duct work that you said pushed out to the center, pick a side and push it in and pull back gently and make it catch so it doesn't protrude. this will allow you to slide back in the vent piece you removed, starting on that side. once you get the other side aligned correctly, and have the little plastic peg in the hole, you can use a screwdriver or anything long and thin to help reposition the part of the vent that you temporarily tucked out of the way. it will take a few minutes to get the vent parts back into position, but it is possible. deep breath, and don't punch anything.

If none of that makes sense, PM me and i'll try to re-explain

Haha, all is well slowhat. I wrote that on my netbook sitting in my driver's seat so everything was still fresh when I was writing that. I've since cleaned the car up, come inside, and had something to eat.

For the vents, I tried taping the duct's to the interior walls, but sounds like you're recommendation takes that idea to the next level. I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow after work. Thanks for the idea and I'll definitely let you know how it works out.

The BT mic is clamped right in front of my gauges on that bottom lip (above the steering wheel). I was outside my apartment when I called and I usually get 0-2 bars of service so I'm not surprised about the call quality yet. I'll give it a fair shake sometime tomorrow.

No sound going through system?? What do you mean? Nothing through speakers?

BTW I just did this exact job a week ago and the vent is a little bit of a PITA, but you just need to take your time, not be in a rush, and do one side at a time. I put the vent piece back in BEFORE final installation of radio. Otherwise it would have been next to impossible.

Maybe do this- disconnect negative battery terminal, pull radio back out, disconnect all wiring, (because something is very screwed up)... install vent piece, then carefully go through wiring one by one and fix your problem.

No need to solder either. I used butt-connectors and a crimper. If you don't have them, get a 100 pack of 16 guage connectors and a crimper. Do it that way, then solder one connection at a time later when you're positive everything works, or leave it connected with crimp connections.

To clear up some confusion I do get audio through the system, "it works" in that regard. The high pitch whine that I mentioned is just some feedback that I noticed when I purposely had no audio playing through the system, but the volume was still up kinda high. I used http://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP50...onnectors.html for the connections. They fit perfect for 2 wire junctions, but I had to put some work trying to get 3-way connections to fit, and connections that had more (like ground) just wouldn't fit, so I soldered those separately.

BT mic works good I was told. I made a call to a buddy on the road yesterday during lunch and he said he could hear me, so the other day must have just been a bad cell service area. I'm debating on hooking up the USB and a 3.5mm wire to my glovebox just because the features are there. Google Music streams pretty descent on BT but Pandora kinda sucks sometimes so I might consider a 3.5mm hookup as a backup option.

One last thing I noticed was FM radio gets worse reception in the Pio than it did in the stock. I wired the power antenna wire as described here but I'll have to take another look I guess.

Hey glad it's working out.

I also noticed worse reception. but I know the antenna amp is hooked up. I also notice it has better reception in some ways too- like it can pull in stations from much farther away that the stock HU could never get at all, but closer stations seem to not come in as good in areas where they fade out a little.

I wonder if the antenna amp is getting enough power? I might hook up a second relay, like the one for the hand brake mod, but use a switched power source and hook up output side to the antenna amp.
