245/45/17 or 245/40/17 what do you think?
I drive a 2005 wrx sedan and I just bought 17x7.5 rotas off another member. The tires that I am looking at are mainly the Hankook RS2s(which are offered in 245/45/17) and the Falken FK451s(245/40/17) but I'm leaning heavily toward the hankooks right now. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has had experience with putting 245 on 7.5 wheels or if any experts wanna input. I know the tire will fit but do you guys think the tires will feel too "squishy" to negate the advantage of a wider tire? I want as much grip as possible but if its gonna sacrifice steering response and feel too much I dont think its worth it. I think 245 is ideally matched to an 8inch but I love wider tires, this kinda reminds me of putting 225s on a stock 6.5 wrx wheel and I know some people say its not worth it which is why im hesitating somewhat.

You should be looking at the Kook 235 40 17's for those wheels. They will give you good grip and a gearing advantage leading to quicker acceleration that the wrx so desperately needs. The 245 45 17 is right out on the wrx IMO as it would kill the gearing advantage and make the car more overgeared than it already is. 245 40 17 is the correct size as far as diameter, but is not recomended on a 7.5" wide rim. They would fit, but you would lose some turn in response.

I have the 235/40 kooks on my 17x7.5 SSR's and They fit just fine and at ~38F/36R, they feel just fine the 451's would be my second choice, in that price range |

glad to hear it, its wierd though hankook's website says minimum width for 235/40/17 is 8 inches and 245/45/17 is 7.5 im not like a tire/sidewall expert but if it works for you guys thats good enough for me.
