I ran stage 1 relatively unmodded (stock, then catback) for over 10k with no problems, but again I would at least have the reserve cash to replace those parts

That's something's that should be brought up with your tuner. It's what I told mine(COBB), and I'm happy with it!

Ok I'm getting my oil change this week and my local tuner I trust uses royal purple but lately I've been reading negative reviews on it. I don't know if its just here say forum users. Anyone with actual knowledge or that actually uses it have any feed back or should I just go with the proven t6?

I'm probably just over thinking.

1. You obviously don't trust him haha
2. T6 is proven, and cheaper. But! Not being able to see your location at the moment, ill tell you it is a bit thick for winter. It could just be me but my car had a hard time starting up when it was about 10*F. All in all, it still started and it was fine and dandy when the oil came to temperature.
3. You are over thinking

I've been using rp for a while. I haven't had issues but I've heard some bad things. It apparently sheers down to 20 weight after 1000 miles or so but then thickens up later on I think...according to an analysis thread I was reading. Some nissan tuners I know really don't like the stuff. They said they have seen a lot of thrown rod bearings. I'm switching to something else on my next change...its probably fine but I've heard too many bad things.

Are you referring to the T6? I can assure you it works just fine at forty below. And yeah it's significantly cheaper.

i can't imagine starting my car at 40 below..it doesn't seem to like starting when its in the single digits

does t6 hurt mpg at all?

being that its 5w40 it should be good for the same temps as 5w30 as underscoredavin said

will subaru really void your warranty for using 5w40?

Theoretically if they actually tested the oil and could prove what it was, assuming you didn't tell them.

well they might make you show some proof that you have been changing the oil in a timely fashion, like receipts

...which is why I buy my own oil and have the dealer change it, so there's always a record of it.

Why would they void your warranty for using 5w40? It says in the owners manual that you can use 5w40.

It specifically states 5w30, and has to meet some eco friendly standard.

Page 11-13 in the manual states oil specs

It says 5W-30 or 5W-40 for temps below -30 to temps above 30

It also says 10W-30 or10-40 for temps -20 to 40 & above.

The manual also states that you can use any brand of oil as long as they are the same API classification & SAE viscosity as those recommended by Subaru. It also has to be energy conserving.

Rotella T6 meets all these requirements(5w-40,API-SM) except one, energy conserving.

Yep. What mods/map are you running? I am OTS Cobb stage2+ ACN91 with Cobb sf, invidia catted dp, 08 spt catback. Running Rotella T6. When it sat outside at 10F or below, the next morning it was slow to crank over but it still started. Only took a few extra seconds than normal...nothing crazy. Just felt like it didn't want to or it was pissed at me for trying to start it so cold. Once it started it was fine.

I can't imagine what -40F even feels like haha

That's a matter of your starter and battery, not the oil, but a second or two is expected.

My setup is almost identical to yours.

Why have I never heard of any new WRXs using STi rear struts?

So I'm running my STi stg 2 w/ ebe, cai, and turbo inlet on a stock fuel pump. Going to Agile auto in Maryland to get a pro tune w/ one step colder NGKs and a perrin ebcs. Should I throw the new DW65c in the tank before I get tuned? Do I need it? Peaking the car out around 19-20psi for my tune. Thanks

I would say you might as well, even though our cars already pretty much max out the injectors with stg2, I don't know that it would hurt anything. Then you would just have to put in bigger injectors when you are ready.
