^^ Thanks for the advice. I was hoping to get into a Rig while I'm out in California. Upon further research on other forums I feel the WJ is a better choice which means it will be a couple years before I can get into a rig. Also I can't stomach the idea of spending a few grand on a vehicle that is getting extremely close to 200k miles which will also be splitting the Daily Driving duty with my WRX.

I think someone may have done some major overhauling on the engine in my CJ. There is definitely a lot missing in the emissions control/electronics department. Plus the valve cover looks different than an 85. It runs great though, so I'm not going to pry.

Am I totally crazy for wanting to ditch my FJC in favor of a new Grand Cherokee? Something about four real doors and real luxury with 95% of the capability of the FJC seems very tempting right now.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokees look good, I've owned two jeeps - both reliable and got the job done. I'm really looking at the Cherokee to be a solid road trip/snow/camping car...

I would love a wrangler, but I don't think it can handle highway duty that well

Yeah, as much as I love my FJ, I have been really really wanting a more proper expedition machine. Capable off-road, still comfortable on-road and with a lot more space inside. I wonder if you can sleep inside the JGC, that'd be a big deciding factor. Snow/camping/trail cruising is what it'd be doing, which is what my FJ does now.

My grandpa had a ZJ for a short while and then a WJ. The WJ was a great truck but had a LOT of reliability issues. Nothing that left him stranded on the side of the road, mostly just annoyances. Pretty danged capable off-road though, I know well about that

A few guys have made combinations but I don't care for how it looks. The winch cradle sticks out and kinda looks awkward with DOM. If sheet is what I chose, I wouldn't be making it. If I went tube, I could give base measurements for the mounting plates and have a co. like Ballistic cut them for me, then do the tube myself.

What do you guys think?
I'm not a huge fan of tube bumpers, sometimes they look okay, sometimes they don't. I really like my bumper, I plan on adding a stinger, so its like the best of both.. almost. As you can see, there are still capabilities for spot lights. They are ridiculously bright even being so small.

Here is my friends tube front bumper that looks really good though, he really pulled it off and still has winch capabilities.

And, to stay even more on topic! Here are some more pictures from the last trip I took to 21 road.

Me driving the yota.

Hopefully I didn't already post these in here lol.

Problem with Nissan is there is only 2 mounting points for an aftermarket bumper to attach to. If I did tube with winch, the cradle would be forced to end about 15" from the start of the grill (If I wanted to incorporate a skid, which I certainly do). It just doesn't look flush, so I have accepted that it will be one or the other, but not a combination.

I have a CJ-5 that I bought from my grandmother about a year ago. It's been sitting at her cabin in Colorado for almost a year and half since I have not had time to pick it up.

Any idea how much a nice fiberglass hardtop would be worth? There is currently one on there which I would be interested in selling to finance the costs of getting it to Las Vegas.

Just bought this. In a different color.

It's a 07 Limited. Has mostly everything but the Hemi. The 4.7 doesn't run to awful bad either. 29k miles. I love it. I hope to do a few odds and ends shortly.

My first WJ was an early '99 that was in the shop a couple dozen times the first year, but for really inane things like the letters peeling off the bug guard (warranty covered it, replaced the whole thing ) and the black roof strips not being straight, some schmults inside the glass on the rear quarter window, etc.

My other two were great, only broke stuff that was either aftermarket or because of mods or hamfisting bolts with a 1/2" impact.

Speaking of... I'm about 5'11" and I spent 2 weekends in a row in the back of my WJ, and a 3rd random night out at the gravel pit in it. I found that by removing the 4 bolts that attach the right rear passenger seat bottom and just running it as a 3 seater, I could fold the right rear seat down and stuff bags of gear in the gap and I could stretch out fully.

The WK iirc is a little bit longer, so you might be able to get away with it without removing the seat bottom. YMMV.

Front tube/skid plate bumper with a 2" receiver hitch? Get a hitch-mount cradle winch and plop it in there when needed, also being able to use it from the rear?

The 4.7 standard output in my WJs had lots of balls, as did the HO one... the WK is a bit heavier but it shouldn't be too bad. I recently drove an older Ram 1500 quad cab with the 4.7 though, and it was sluggish.

There are a bunch of options for a lift on an XJ at that height.

The cheapest of all.....Junkyard parts. Get the rear leafs out of a 4x4 Dakota and the front coils out of a V8 XJ. Add some new front brake lines from a 4x4 Dakota and a rear line from a CJ so there are no issues at full droop.

That was my first step on my XJ. It was less than $100 and rode/flexed just as well as XJ's with spacers and/or shackles and add-a-leafs.

That crossed my mind. i'm not sure its worth dropping that kind of money on a half-assed setup though. i rarely wheel alone and i already get stuck doing enough recoveries without one.

While I agree it's not the best setup, it's also handy if you're in the middle of the pack and need to get winched up and then need to winch someone else up.

And now for something completely different:

Auto X: It's a Jeep thing!

This was at the Grassroots Motorsports $2010 Challenge, and my friends and I fielded this thing. It's a 2wd 1995 Cherokee with the 4.0L HO running Mega Squirt. It's got a sectioned front axle that allows for road course-worthy camber, inverted rear leaf springs, a Ford 8.8 Traction Lok rear disc rear end, and all sorts of other nonsense done to it. It handles surprisingly well! We also decided that 11:30pm after the Auto X event that it would be a good time to toss a turbo on it.

hmm.

We have a 92-94ish (don't recall) XJ sitting at our dealership just waiting to go to the auction. It doesn't run. Someone traded it in, brought it in on a flatbed. It has a paste made of rust at the bottom of the tank, and hosed injectors. Some bright individual decided the fuel filter was clogged, so they just took it off and put a piece of hose in place.

I think I've finially found the lift and look I want to go for in my WK. Rocky Road 2.5 in lift with some 70 series. Nothing to huge. Anyone know the model of wranglers on this?
