Google is way too big for it's britches now. The "real" Nexus days are long gone, never likely to return again.

Because with the likes of Oppo and Huawei, the Nexus line doesn't make sense anymore but to the only few hard core Android fans.

Agreed. Just wish more companies like those would make more Verizon compatible phones. Things have improved, but there could be more offerings out there.

My wife dropped her 6P and even with a good case and glass screen protector it broke the screen. It still works 100% but I either need to repair it or replace it.

Both of us have had a 6P since around launch and have loved the phones. Hers has recently been doing the shut down around 15% but it's only maybe 2-3x a week. Is it worth getting the screen replaced and keeping it or should I get her a new one? If I get the screen replaced will a new battery help with the shut down issue?

If it comes to needing a new phone, what's out there that's comparable? Biggest thing she likes is the camera, battery life, and charging speed. Thinking of either a Pixel, HTC U11, or going back to Samsung with a S8.

I went 6P to S8. I love the S8...resolution, battery life, speed...it's all been swell.

Did you like stock android? Did it take a while to get used to whatever Samsung uses (touchwiz?)

I actually went Touchwiz(Note5), to stock(6P), back to Touchwiz(S8). Also, I am running Nova Launcher

I know some folks here hate Touchwiz. Never really bothered me. You can disable a bunch of the bloatware (Package disabler), if you choose...so there's that.

Sounds like Google is offering a $165 trade-in credit and a $50 bonus trade-in credit, if it’s done before October 5th, for Nexus devices when you buy a MotoX4 ($399) for Project Fi.

I'll probably trade in or sell the wife's 5x and upgrade. The water resistance, faster processor, more RAM and unlimited photo/video storage are worth it.

So all you folks who jumped on the S8 deal, how are you liking the phone after a couple of months? Anybody moved the S8 from a vanilla Android phone? Since xiaomi are being aholes with the code for the mi6, I'm debating going for the S8 now that prices are down.

My only complaints about my S8 Active are the rounded screen edges, which are dumb and pointless, Touchwiz, amd the screen doesn't seem to be nearly as responsive at the edges, I'm sure that a palm detecting thing but it is really annoying and makes me have to tap/swip repeatedly to get the expected response way to often.

However, the battery life is nothing shot of incredible, I don't need a case amd the screen is amazing and viewable even in direct and bright sunlight.

It's not a perfect device but I can certainly live with it.

I went from a Note 4 to an LG G3 (temp) to an S8. While the older generation Galaxy phones "suffered" from TW, currently there's plenty of horsepower to run it smoothly. Even the Note 4 was fine with TW...which was good since it had a locked bootloader. Basically I've had no desire to mess with ROMs since I ditched the Galaxy S3. That phone definitely needed a "clean" ROM to run smoothly. It was terrible with TW.

Happy with my S8, seems like the battery lasts longer than my old S7e even though it's smaller but I have a QI charger at work and quick charge in the car and I'm on my phone more than I was with the S7e so not an apples to apples comparison. On weekends at home when I'm not on it it seems to idle very well. With Nova launcher I don't have a problem with touchwiz. I hated it on my S3.

Samsung has also toned down TouchWiz over the years and it's considerably more bearable. But of course, they go ahead with the bonehead Bixby button move. At least it can be disabled (but not remapped *sigh*).

I still can't figure out how it seemed like a good idea to add Bixby. "One voice assistant is good so two must be even betterer!"

Ordered a MotoX4 for Google Fi. Should be here in about a month. It'll be my wife's phone until my son's birthday (then he's getting it). She'll get my old phone (Pixel XL) and move to Verizon. I'll most likely get the Pixel 2 XL.

which real nexus days are you talking about?

every single nexus device had their own shortcomings.

I've had N1, Gnex, N5, and N6.

I've read a lot about the NS, N4, N5x and N6p to know that the N6 was probably the best baked nexus device.

And I can say without trepidation (I think I've used that word twice in Nasioc this week) that the Pixel is leagues better than the N6 was.

Same. The speaker sucks and there's too much UI jank and input lag much of the time. Nothing can be done about the former, but hopefully the 7.1.1 (or if they skip straight to 8.0) update will help with the latter. Supposedly the Note 8 is much smoother due to 7.1.1.

The best nexus is the 2nd gen N7 tab. Mine is still going strong.

Funny, I turned Mrs. delongedoug's on for the first time in a long time this morning. It's still on KitKat and isn't unlocked or anything. I have an itch to nuke it and install whatever ROM (presumably LOS 14.1) but it's not my device. I do miss having a bedside tablet, though. My 1st gen N7 turned to absolute **** with L and I think I kept it on a CM KK ROM before selling it for like $60.
