I'm not judging. There was a question so I gave my answer. People can do whatever they want. I think it's funny that people are willing to dump thousands into bodes and lens' but don't want to spend money on cheap software.

:shrugs: I dont have any torrented music or torrented software. If it isnt freeware, I pay for it.

Their work is no different than mine. I dont want people using my work without compensating me, why would I use someone else's work without compensating them?

I fired a videographer (and ate the fee he charged me) I hired for one of my projects because he couldnt find music that was legitimately free for use or that was within our budget to license.

(EDIT: Ill admit. I have torrented Top Gear episodes. Thats the only thing I torrent.)

I definitely agree there. Which is why I have a Rebel XS, a nifty fifty, and no LR4 haha

Found an old picture of my Version II STi. Didn't know a thing about any settings with my camera when I first got it, but still think it was a decent shot

Only thing I've downloaded without paying for it was an old album on vinyl I couldn't find using legitimate means online or in cd format.. Listen to the City by Tim Weisberg.

Good to know that we're not all too cheap to pay for things.

The Anarchy Motive knob I had for my 5 speed was 671 grams (1.48lbs). I didn't weigh the 6 speed knob yet. It is heavier than just about any round knob on the market.

Yeah I've had it for quite a while. It's an awesome lens for portraits on FF

You guys that "borrow" software:

How would you feel if someone (maybe a company) used one of your photos (maybe for profit) without your permission or compensating you? What would you do about it?

I used to be like you guys, but I am 24 now, and am beginning to see the massive damage that downloading and piracy is doing.

You can get the entire goddamn Adobe master collection for $49 a month with their cloud based service.
Hell, its $29 a month if you are a student. Thats nothing.

Anyway, heres a pic:

im quite small time compared to adobe...which maybe isn't a good excuse, but in a way thats how i look at it...and i think that 700 bucks for an editing software such as Pshop is bit out there...i have only had CS3 and CS5 in the last 5 years...two downloads in which i didn't even do. I dont download everything when it comes out, i passed on CS6 infact when offered for free. So i dont really feel bad about have 2 free programs in the last 5ish years.

PS. i dont download music for free or movies, i pay for everything on itunes. I have never used a torrent program in my life.

Agree with this sentiment.
A few years ago I would have been more blase about stealing software, but now that I produce creative works of my own that are readily available for theft via the internet I have a new perspective.

LR is great bang for your buck and is definitely worth the 100$ or so.

Whether you are the one who did the actual downloading/stealing or not makes trivial difference. You are still part of the cycle.

Everyone pays for it in the end when the price of software goes through the roof. I'm sure that is a small part in the high price of PS. I'm surprised that LR is still dirt cheap at this point.

I have been thinking about doing that plan just so I am always using the most current version. $50 a month is nothing really.

Telling someone to steal something for you is still stealing. If you cant justify the $700 theres always Gimp.

If you cant afford photoshop, or decent editing software without stealing it, then why do people buy nice cameras, lenses etc? If you can afford all that you can afford $50 a month.

Reminds me of a couple of kids at a recent car meet with 5D MKIIIs all kitted up. They kept coming up and asking me what settings I had my camera on etc. I am all for helping people learn, and am by no means a pro, but ****....

The student discount is pretty substantial from what I recall. At least you have that option.

$50 a month is nothing.

If you have a smartphone, you spend $50 a month more than a normal phone.
If you have a coffee a day, you spend $60 a month (minimum) on coffee.

I can go on for days.

Why should I spend $29 on software when I could just download it? Does it directly effect me if I "steal" $1000 program from a 19 billion dollar publicly traded company? No it doesn't. It suck when people steal your work but it happens anyway and thats life. So you guys can pay for all the programs and music you want I'll continue downloading them. To each their own.

Then dont complain when people profit off your work.

In the mean time, Ill continue paying for software and billing in the 4 digits per photo for usage.
