Default JDM v8 ECU ROM read issue

Hey guys, about to start my v8 STi swap into 03 WRX. Was trying to pull the map from the new JDM ECU prior to pulling anything from the engine bay... to send it to the tuner. I plugged the new ECU in and connected my Tactrix 1.3. When trying to read the ROM thru ECU flash, getting and error (no matter which MY Impreza I chose), and this is what the ROM says....

[15:19:55.812] Using interface OpenPort 1.3 Subaru TX48H9Oq9b9574d54dcd45b4c557cd6a9ace3407257e6ca7

[15:20:04.218] kernel get version
[15:20:04.546] interface close

ECU# ends with AH581. Any ideas? Thanks for any input!

Are you sure you are doing the process correctly?
I had the same issue and I was doing the sequence wrong.....

Make sure you have the jumper block attached (need to buy), (these are not the green connectors)

+1... green connectors + jumper block in order to read/write on the ecu.

Thanks for the reply guys! Just to clarify, I did have the green connectors plugged into each other... but not the jumper block. Because I thought the instructions said, the jumper block is ONLY needed if I am reflashing the ECU... not when trying read it. Here is what I was going by:

I thought the same for my car but yes you do need the jumper block in order to read the rom on the ecu or write a new one onto it.

Jumper block from an accessport should work, correct?

Yes, will work with no problems as long as the year off the jumper block is right for your car.

Default JDM v8 ECU ROM read issue

coming back from the dead here...

I also have a ver 8 ej207 and a merged 03 WRX harness into a 99RS. the 99 RS wiring does not have a flash block so we had to make our own. Does anyone know if this is a 1-2 flash block or a 1-2 3-4 flash block? We have a 1-2 3-4 flashblock made already and im getting the same read back as OP posted from ECU flash when trying to flash my tune (yes we jumped the pins).

I am brand new to this ecu flashing stuff. My tuner sent me a base tune to get the car to the dyno. Do I have to select a MY or does the tune he sent me cover that? if so what year would the Ver 8 ecu be? from what i can gather its JDM MY03.

Edit: made sure correct vehicle was selected. Still no dice, same error.
