WRX front seats for a '97 legacy gt
Folks,
Does anyone know if wrx seats will fit a '97 legacy gt sedan? If they will .... then I'll post and see if I can find a pair for sale ... this would be my first choice .... otherwise .... recaro or sparco STi seats will not fit ... I welcome feedback from any of you who have upgraded your seats! thanks Charlie

charlie, do you know why the sti's won't fit? i've got a pair coming in a few weeks. from what i've heard the non-us wrx seats are the same as the sti except for the coverings.

MY02 WRX seats will fit ... perfectly ... MY95-99 Legacys use 5 fastening bolts instead of the 4 in the Rexes. However, the seat height is compromised when WRX seats are used in Legacys. The WRX seats have a higher profile than Legacy seats ... since the floor area in a REX is higher to emulate a linear racing postion when a driver is in seat. The Legacy incorporates more of a standard seating postion. |

Roger,
I've been talking with Mike Shields, SPD about the STi Ver 6 seats via email that he stocks and his email back said they wont fit ... and I think the answer is the bolting pattern but I did not ask ... Legaliztik2001, Ok, if I understand you correctly ... installing wrx seats ... seat will be lower than what it is now ... thus with height adjuster raised all the way up ... seating position would be lower than standard legacy seat ? If so ... how much ... because when driving autocross ... I currently have my legacy seat at maximum height for best visibility for right front corner ... and I'm 5'10" If that's correct ... anyway to raise mounting to offset for differences? thanks Charlie |

thanks charlie. guess we'll find out for sure in a few weeks if the seats show up. if they don't, i'll either look into getting brakets made or have a set for sale.

cfwdfw...
you've got it ... but the other way around... again, i am referring to the new 2002 model WRX OEM seats with the side airbags ... the height of the WRX seat at it lowest setting is higher than a Legacy seat at its highest setting ... therefore, whether you have extremely thin or large legs, the space between your thighs and the bottom end of the steering wheel is comprismised despite the tilt wheel function ... it really depends on the driver ... but as a daily fit ... the space comprimise is a bit cumbersome ... plus ... even if you strap WRX seats in, you'd have to de-activate the side airbags or take them out instead ... since the Legacys don't have a side airbag harness ... this is true for MY95-99 Legs .. .not too sure about 2000+ .... hope this helps... |

thanks legaliztik2001,
I got it ... and since my legacy gt is a 97 ... I should be looking for an '01 wrx seat .... as I dont think these have the side air bags .... then I need to look carefully at seat height and spacing between steering wheel and my legs .... Charlie |

i'm kind of confused now - wouldn't the bolt pattern for a my01 wrx non-sti seat be the same as the sti seat?

Hi Roger,
hmm... maybe ... maybe not ... and in light hearted jest ... Murphy's Laws! ... I will be sending Mike Shields a follow up email on my rear sway bar in a day or two ... and will ask him if he would take a moment to share his knowledge on this with us on the differences ... and perhaps one of our subie brethen out there can enlighten us as well ...
