17yr. old in a Vette and a 19yr. old in a Benz. Killed an engaged couple when they both hit their Jeep.

I wonder why people have problems with kids driving Rex's...

Dude what are you talking about??

I would guess that the people commenting here DON"T street race, otherwise I have plenbty of :monkey: for them too.

I only race on the track.I may speed on way way to and from work but if I see a jerkoff trying to start something I will back off or let them go by as if I dont see them.

I used to do stupid things on the roads but after loosing 4 friends in 3 years and almost loosing myself in a accident in front of the gothels for driving like a moron I calmed down heavily. Its just not worth it.I only drive crazy on a track since then,Or recently in auto-x's.

I wonder if someone will sue the parents and try to hold them liable since they bought the overpriced cars and gave them to kids without the capacity to handle them. That'd be interesting.

And street racing is going to happen no matter how many people say :monkey: to it for exactly the reason jetfan unintentionally said: People won't listen to the experienced people until they've discovered it for themselves.

worst part is they won't even release the names of the driver's. If you're old enough to drive a corvette, you should be old enough to have your name put into the paper. And the 19 your old isn't even a minor.

And guess who's going to throw money for good lawyers to keep them out of jail, yes that's right, the parents.

yea, my mom was telling me about that this morning. she's on the job and apparently there was a woman on scene who said she was doin 80mph and the 2 cars past her like she wasn't mooving. also, apparently it took the police 10 minutes to walk from where one half of the jeep was to the other half.
thats what happens when you blast over a blind crest in the dark at well over 100mph. my question is what the heck are kids doing with that much power under there foot? seriousl, i get a little nervous when i see anyone who looks under the age of 30 in some monster of a car. granted, age has no berring on driving abilities and common sence. but still.

thank g-d for the open road and reformance cars, personal liberties and the american way.
Sounds like the hipocrates on this site never speed, never race, never rice out there cars, have respect for all, don't curse, never drink and drive, are never at fault in any accidents, Never received a dollar from any one especailly not there parents, are all self made wonderkinds, and are great people. PPPPLLLLEEEAAASSSSE.
Did they give you crack when you bought your car cause it seems like a lot of you need a rehab program check yourselves for real.
I'm not perfect and I'll be the first to admit it. Have I every done something stupid with my car.... yeah but I try to act responsible..

Did you ever wonder why they build cars to go 120mph when the top speed limit is 65mph. Do you really need to go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. I guess itif it was up to tri state I-club all US cars should be detuned to max at 65mph. unless ofcourse you have your special auto x decoder ring

I hate to even say this because people's lives have been taken...but I'm so sick of this BS about people having fast cars at certain ages. I see 50 year old jackasses tearing around in mustangs and camaros all the time...and your stereotyping is nothing more than jealousy. Give it up. If a teenager is going to drive recklessly it doesn't matter what kind of car they have. Better they have one that at least handles and brakes decently. In high school I had a dumpy old Taurus and that didn't stop me from getting a ticket for 110mph...the point is....if people are gonna be dumb and drive like animals...they'll do it in a yugo if that's what they've got. hate wreckless drivers...if they happen to be teenagers...well unfortunately a lot of teenagers drive recklessly to varying degrees...you can't fault the parents for buying them nice cars...that's not what caused this horrible tragedy.

Stereotyping? jealous? A 17yr. old had a Vette. A 19yr. old had the Benz. I think they proved the point that young drivers are irresponsible. maybe there is a reason insurance is so high till you hit 25. Oh, and I'm sure we're all really jealous of some stupid kid who killed two people, and is in the hospital, and soon after that, prision.

Maybe we're not all saints, maybe we speed a bit or accelerate quickly, but for the most part, people in this forum are responsible drivers who take it to the track. The only reason I think you're playing Devil's advocate is because you drive like that pair of jerkoffs, but you haven't killed anyone yet.

Doing 100+ on a road that allows left turns across it is stupid. Young or old, its more common sense, and unfortuantely, alot of people don't have it, regardless of their age. There is no way an opposing motorist would be able to gauge the time needed and the distance traveled to make a left turn, even if they could see you.

what is wrong with buying you kid a nice car. that's why I live in this country to work make money and provide for my family. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to buy my daugthers a porshe or a BMW ( never a benz and a vette). Maybe for there 16th birthday maybe HS graduation. These parents are not at fault for the type of car they bought but for the Values the instilled or maybe forgot to instill. Just because your rich does'nt make you a jerk and just because your poor don't make you cool.
Remember.

Did you see what was left of that jeep?!

This is why people shouldn't street race. There are more & more accidents because of this. :monkey: those street racers. Save it for the track where you wont have to worry about killing the person in the next lane and you can speed legally. I would rather pay $10-$20 for getting a few runs in rahter then risk the chance of hurting/killing someone or even receiving a speeding ticket.

Someone doesn't have to be under 20 to be a bad driver. I've seen people more than twice my age driving worse than I did when I had a permit and have been close to accidents because of older people who think they own the road. As far as drivers, every age group has their discredits, mostly teens because they lack experience on the road but it doesn't mean every teen belongs in the passenger seat.

Just my $0.02

J.

[edit: the two idiots who caused that accident should be tried as adults and go to jail]

Unhappy Food for thought

My heart goes out to all the families impacted by this tragedy.

- The good part of living in our society is that for the most part we all have the freedom to do and say anything we want.

- The bad part of living in our society is that when we screw up accountability and justice are not so equally distributed.

Certainly, this accident should give us all food for thought about how we drive.

- Rak

Something similar happened in Brooklyn a couple of years ago. Two drivers in expensive German cars were street racing on the Belt Parkway when one of them collided with a Honda as it was exiting a gas station. The collision decapitated the Honda driver. The street racer was indicted and tried for Murder 2° (reckless) and was convicted by a jury of the same.

Jon Paul Lazartes, 21 faces up to 25 years to life in prison for "depraved indifference" to human life. The* NY Daily News, quotes Assistant District Attorney Maureen McCormick as saying "Jurors said they couldn't avoid the feeling that any of them could have been on the road that night, struck by Lazartes' "4,500-pound torpedo."

http://www.transalt.org/press/askta/010625.html

Let's hope the same happens in L.I.
