Default [Mini Review] Traded 2011 Impreza Outback Sport for 2012 Impreza Sport Premium

Hi guys,

Sold my 2011 Impreza Outback Sport and got a 2012 Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium.

Just wanted to give my review for those wondering about it.

Old Car:

New Car:

Interior: Absolutely amazing! Minus the leather, this is Audi quality (actually looks and feels VERY similar to 2004-2008 audi a4 quattro, which i cross shopped) Soft touch dash/doors/armrest is wonderful! New white faced gauges look sexy, no squeaks and rattles even in the cold, and the Sport cloth seats are very nice with white contrasting stitching. PADDLE SHIFTERS ARE FUN!

Exterior: Definitely more sporty that 2011. I like the new headlights better and the boxier shape. Looks more athletic. The new roof rack is useless however, they should have made stock cross bars instead like in 2011. The new gray 17" alloys look really nice.

Performance: 0-60 is a half second faster with CVT and smaller engine. Less low end grunt, but it makes up for it 45-60. New standard rear sway bar dramatically improves cornering. Acceleration is smoother since there are no more gear changes. Paddle shifters are fun.

MPG: So far i have driven 60 miles...

50% city/50% highway at 65 mph. Im averaging 30.9 mpg...not too shabby. Can consistently hit 40+ mpg on freeway cruising if I don't speed. City driving on hills, goes down to about 27 (Which is EPA estimate)

Pricing:

I'm in California bay area, so i leased it for $290 / month (incl. tax) for 36 months, zero down, 15,000 miles per year, 62% residual value, 0.00131 money factor (~3% apr) Lease based on negotiated price of $21,100. Was a 4 week wait to order it.

Hope you enjoyed this mini review.

It makes the 2011 look like it was built from legos.

Correction: That would be LEGO bricks, not legos.

I also picked up a Sport Premium a few weeks ago. I specifically went with the Sport to get the roof siderails so I could use my existing Yakima towers and bars (from my 09 Outback wagon) that clamp onto the siderails. If you haven't looked at the Yakima (or Thule) offerings, I'd suggest checking them out. They work very well.

Those houses look familiar I bet I live pretty close to you. Lol

I got the sport limited and the leather is very nice. I think it's more comfy than the sport cloth.

I bought the old one, but it was a lemon (Read: suspension issues) so subaru refunded me my years worth of payments and paid off my loan.

Default Subaru Sports Premium

I am in the process of purchasing the 2012 Subaru Impreza Sports Premium.

Are there any websites that sell any performance parts for this vehicle? It seems as though no one has any upgrades..

Headlights
Fog lights
Air intake
Exhaust Systems

Ect....

30mpg average is about what I got when I had a 2012 Impreza as a rental. I feel like it had really good grunt off the line, but that fell off through the rev range. Had the CVT transmission & yes the paddles are fun, but 6th gear is useless on the highway for anything resembling passing/acceleration.
The interior is a BIG step up from the 2008-2011 model years, I experienced the car from low 40's to about 70's temp wise and don't remember one rattle, but it only had 1500 miles on the odometer.
If the ass didn't look like a Dodge Caliber and there was around 200 hp with 30mpg highway I'd seriously consider ditching my WRX for an Impreza (blasphemy!).

Question Premium vs Sport Premium

What's the difference between a 2012-present Impreza hatchback "Premium" and a "Sport Premium?"

Looking carefully at the 2015 Impreza brochure and Subaru's configurator, the only difference is that the Sport Premium has 17" wheels. This can't be all, right?

Sorry for hijacking this thread... I don't have enough posts to make my own thread.

I have a 2012 Sport Premium. As I recall, the differences are the wheels, the roof rack bars, and the side skirts. So the differences are mostly cosmetic except for the roof rack bars, which are both cosmetic but also functional.

That's not to say that you can't install a roof rack on a car with no bars. But I like being able to strap my Thule cross bars and Yakima cargo box onto the factory-installed roof rack bars.

The mileage is a nice plus.

08 quality? Uh, not even. I had an A4 and S4 and now have a Crosstrek limited and although the interior quality is much improved over the old rattle traps that Subaru has put out, it's worlds below Audi.
