I know, right? You're not getting much with the Series Gray for the price they want. Going to look at another 2019 STI tomorrow that has the Recaro seats I wanted and is $2000 cheaper. $2000 is good chunk of my winter tire/wheel funds for a new car.

My WRX should be here next week! (about a month early). This is my first time buying a new car, is there anything I should know about going in regarding delivery? I already have financing with my local credit union in order, and have the pricing finalized with the dealer. I'm going to turn down any extras like GAP insurance or dealer add-ons.

For example: Do most people request for the dealer to not wash the car (avoid dealer swirls), take off the protective wrapping on the exterior/interior (avoid scratches and just do it yourself), not drill the front bumper (for the front license plate) or any specific things like that? Any and all tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!

I ask for the dealer to let me peel all the plastic externally and inspect paint together. I wash it at home. The interior I take as is with all plastic covering. It’s a bit of a ritual or gift unwrapping so I do it at home. No license plate holes and no dealer decals. Also request to not let the car leave the lot. I have seen porters aggressively drive new cars to a gas station for that free first tank of gas.

• Car Wash - I told my dealer the same thing and they asked me specifically what do I want. They asked about exterior (I told them no wash), they asked about vacuuming the interior (that I said is ok).
• Protective Wrapping - I initially told them I want to peel it off but then they told me that they can let me do it but then if I see any scratches that's going to be on me where as if they check it they'll still be liable to get it corrected for me. I was a bit disappointed but in that case I told them I'll be on the safe side and let them do it for that reason alone.
• Bumper Drilling - I told them not to as I'll be installing a license plate relocation kit and they said I don't even have to worry because on this model (the WRX in general) they don't do it for the same reason I stated and some folks are okay with chancing it and not even having a front plate (illegal in NJ but some do it). So I told them great!

Now I don't know if all that what they told me is Subaru standard rules or dealer-specific but just an FYI what kind of answers you can expect.

Side question: With my lease I was pretty happy having free GAP insurance but what do you think is it really worth not purchasing on the finance? In case of accident or totaling your car it seems like a good idea. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

Sidenote - Even aside from the Android Auto/Apply Carplay support this thing looks super-responsive and the graphics are a lot nicer!

Thanks bro for the info! I got the Quote from a reputable shop here in Queens, New York. I went and shop around, some shop in Long Island, New York gave me a quote for 2,800 (Full Front) + 575 (Rocker Panels) with the same brand of clear bra (XPEL Ultimate Plus).

Jeez! For that price you can get an entire SubiSpeed 2018+ WRX bumper, pre-painted, with the overpriced JDM fog bezels, S208 grille pinstripe, an extra Maxton Design Front Lip, $250 shipping and still fall $468+ short of just the Full Front coverage.

I honestly understand the material isn't cheap and the labor is definitely difficult and time-consuming (just doing the headlights alone on my 2016 Impreza was a real PITA).....but I mean come on.....it shouldn't cost more than an ever an upgraded replacement of the part you're protecting...what's the point then?

-All the front bumper, headlights and fog
-Half Hood, stop at scoop
-fenders
-Mirrors
-Part of the roof before the moon-roof
-Rockers

850$ (can)

And the installer is very good, an artist
He installed XPEL before but he really likes more STEK.

Is 2800 a typo or does full front mean everything front of the steering wheel? (full hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors)
Because if not, that is very high. And if so, I think doing full front like that is excessive. But, tbh, my car's protected areas looks great with just a wipe of Carpro Reload.

The 2019 headunit is leaps improved over my 2016 STI. Lag is minimal and the screen resolution is great. Color me impressed Subaru.

Anyone have problems getting insurance? I put in the VIN Subaru gave me for my 2019 and Progressive didn't recognize it. The only 2019's Progressive has in their database are Ascents...

Happens with new model years. You'll have to wait a while as it might not be in the systems. Just have them keep your VIN and try to get a quote as a 2018. Back when I got my 2017 my insurance couldn't see the VIN until it was closer to delivery.

Yes, the 2,800 includes hood, bumper, fender, side mirrors. It's high in my opinion. I got a quote from a different installer for 1,600 for the same coverage and brand.

Great to see everyone getting their cars early. I just got my VIN email. Original ETA was last week of September. Email now says on or before 8/29.

A few on autotrader now going for under MSRP. We will see the remaining RA inventory drop to invoice now that the 19s are on the lots. Unless some one is into collecting rare cars there is no incentive to getting the RA.

yep. i agree. the series gray also dilutes the value prop of the RA.

I would have waited for a series gray instead of the RA if I had known. I might even try and trade my RA on a new series gray if I can find one locally.

I also got a email for my VIN last night and yes, it seems like some people are getting theirs early 😭.
