Default changing out ac condensor

Has anyone done this? I thought my AC went out, but when I took it in to Pitre Subaru today Mike showed me where I caught a rock on my AC condensor, so that is the culprit for my non-working air conditioning. Not a big deal now, but when summertime comes it will be. It is almost $600 at Pitre to have the condensor replaced, and all the other bs that has to be done to recharge it after it is fixed. It seems to me that it would be alot cheaper to replace the condensor myself, and take it to Pitre just for the recharge (which is around $118).
