STi clutch slipping at 26 psi of boost
Street use, stock tranny, car is just perfect for the street and ocasinal strip.
I need to find a replacement for an sti setup I need Stock feel like pedal pressure Low tranny impact Able to hold at least 100 LBs of torque more Clutch is slipping during shifftings.. From my wrx experience ACT IS not an option as is too stiff, tranny will break too soon EXEDY stage 1 organic won`t last too long, maybe 20 passes on the 1/4 quarter Hate the tilton hydraulic release bearing system and the terrible noise and low inertia, terrible for awd launches and street use on heavy traffic, won`t last long. Carbon series clutches... won`t last long on the street, expensive as hell. I need something as close as the hybrid I made for wrx, wich is exedy stage I pressure place with act 6 puck sprung hub disc, will chatter sometimes, but it won`t make any noise as any multidisc, very easy to drive around once you get used to the chatter and is tranny friendly, the combo holds nice the 450 LBS or so. Exedy stage II 3 puck is just to harsh compared to act 6 puck Any other experience with clutch but.. for sti?? Later DJ |

26 PSI of boost has zero to do with clutches and which one to buy. Use your torque rating or estimated torque rating and buy the clutch that meets or SLIGHLY exceeds that rating and buy it. Clutches aren't rocket science, buy what you need and nothing more. Read the Clutch & Flywheel FAQ to ramp up your knowledge base and good luck finding what you need.

sounds like you might be looking at a twin disk. I had a exedy twin organic and it was great. Also rebuildable.

act pressures plates are too much for a street car, even on my race car the best tranny won`t live that long!
Exedy twin organic?? sounds like right, but I am sure that have a lightweight flywheel! wich I wouln`d`t recomend for hard launchings and off and go on heavy traffic... Any other recomendation? Unambomber I have read many times the ***, pass trough many many setups on a wrx, as you can see, the exedy stage I with 6 puck act is the best for 10 sec street cars from my findings, it will chatter a bit, but the pressure plate has just the right amount of holding capacity betwen pedal effort modulation and clamp capability for a 10 sec car. I hate twin discs as they are offered with a lightweight flywheels, on a street subaru used ocassionally for the drag, it`s simply no good! you will overheat the clutch everytime you try to launch and it will make noise on the street...so you`ll eat it quiet fast for an expensive investment... I love the stock clutch on the subarus, to bad it just doesn`t grab as it should, I am sure the delay valve is also contributing the slippage but.. well.. time for an exedy stage I with act 6 puck disc Later DJ |
