Steering is pulling
Howdie, I have a wheel/steering question:
I just put on a "new" set of wheels (used, actually, bought off Polarpreza -- thanks man, they're great!) and now the steering wheel pulls to the left and to the right, especially when I'm driving on a grooved road like 12th Ave. Do you think the tires just need to be rebalanced on the wheels, or I need a full re-alignment? And if I get a re-alignment, does that mean I'll have to get another when I put my snow tires/wheels back on? (sort of defeating the purpose of owning to sets if I have to pay someone to do it for me) Thanks, Dan

Sounds like wider performance tires to me...and it is "normal" for wider tires to follow grooves in the road like that. You get used to it
But, check your lugs, and maybe alignment to be certain? |

Tramlining is the term... J-Chow had a similar issue when he went over to his summers.

The lugs are definitely tight. How much can I expect to pay for just the alignment? I'll try driving them on the flattest road I can find, sans-hands, and see if it tugs then. |

...I experience this every spring when the summer tires go back on.
In a couple of weeks you won't even notice it as you'll automatically be compensating for this with your driving style. |

I have had the exact same issue since I went to 225/45's.. It's the grooves like semaj said... overused roads.. that's all.
Probably don't need an alignment, but it could't hurt. I'm in the process of putting in a set of steering bushings (Whiteline). I'll keep you posted on whether it helps or not. |

Yep. It's tramlining. It usually happens when you go to a wider tire.
I noticed a significant reduction in tramlining after I had my alignment done. LaterZ! Darren!! |

Ya Loughed Hwy and also 16th ave in Langley seem the worst for grooved roads. When I went from the snowies to the 235's I was driving with my knee and hit a rut and almost went off the road...
