The FF forum is the real forum for the FF roadster. This forum is for Subarus, no?

If the demand becomes enough I am sure Nick (owner of NASIOC.com) will make it happen.

It would be great to have a top level forum for the new car along side the Impreza, Legacy, etc forums.

The most popular location will probably be on the new Factory Five forums however. They've got a subforum setup for the new design.

Right after the Porscharu Forum and the Subaru Powered Kit Plane forum...

The Factory Five forum is brand new this month. No one knows whether or not it will catch on. The official Forum for the Factory Five Roadster is Cobra Forum and Stang.net and has been for over 10 years. Those forums benefited heavily for a decade by allowing kit folk to join and share info and builds. Many folks (such as myself) soon became mustang gurus (I've had nine mustangs so far) and gained a real appreciation for the donor car through the mustang based forums.

P.S. There are like 20 subaru powered kit planes. There are over 8000 Factory Five Cobras and this kit is less expensive with better perfomance.

This. Which is while I"m sure they'll allow a sub-forum in due time.

However, if you tell KC he's wrong, he'll put you on his ignore list. Watch it!

The design contest "details" are out. It turns out they are not looking for a fleshed out design but rather just a concept sketch. As such, there really aren't any details at all, just the dimensions of the wheel base. The good news is Dave did say:

I'll save you the suspense, the "design templates" are just orthographic views of 4 wheels with the wheelbase and track dimensions.

There is a subforum on the new (official) Factory Five Forum site specifically for this.

Factory Five's Next Design: Subaru WRX-based sports car

Aiming to show the car at SEMA in November. Don't know what that means in terms of buying kit, maybe summer 2012?

Dave didn't want to make any promises, but if I remember correctly, he said somewhere on the new FFR forum that best case would be a late 2011 release, so early to mid 2012 sounds reasonable.

I'm kinda surprised nobody is talking about entering the design contest to win $5000 and immortal glory.

Surely some folks would like to influence what the car is going to look like, no?

Thinking back to the cars I doodled as a kid, I will not be entering any design competitions . Not that I don't think it would be amazingly cool to say I designed a car. Sadly, Pininfarina or someone could probably win it just by sketching up something in 15 minutes, that is, if they want a little extra "glory". Maybe I should call them and tell them xyz competitor of theirs told me personally that he would be putting in an entry...

on further thought, will this vehicle have to comply with the same dimension restrictions that government puts on production cars (like headlight heights and such)?

I'm going to enter.. but I'm not expecting what I submit to spend more than 3 seconds in front of someone before thrown in the bin.. just like thousands of other submissions.

When they released the info the other day and said that even though they'd spent 2 years working on this plan.. they were only giving us 4 wheels to go by.. I lost some interest. The chance of penning something copacetic with what they have in mind is pretty low.

Did you scale the driver for 1/12th? I'm not sure, but those wheels would have to be pretty large for that to be in scale.

Well those are wheels and tires together, I think it looks about right. Timmy, I really like that.

The sketch is an exact overlay of the dimensions given to the entrants.

im thinking they should have added where the block and tranny are going to sit to help entrants out just a little bit, i get the idea that the driver position will have to be a wee bit more forward than this.

it looks sweet though.

Judging by what I'm seeing from the forums, they have all the technical aspects worked out or working out. The contest is to get close to the look of what they want. BUT I intend on keeping up with it and making adjustments as well as making more views. I will also be making a 3D SolidWorks rendering. Thanks for the input guys. You can't please everyone, but I am not a noob to criticism, so please tell me if you think something looks wrong.

+1 to Timmy. Somebody from NASIOC just has to win the design.

They added a driver/engine/tranny to the templates early today and said not to worry about the suspension becuase it will be LOWWWW.

Yes, Factory Five does have a subforum for their own car. But the "build" forums for their cars are all on other forums. The Factory Five forum is only a few weeks old. I don't know if everybody is planning on jumping over to thier for thier builds or not yet.

the more I think about this, the more a sub-2,000 lb mid-engine subaru makes sense. Too bad subaru doesn't have the guts to make it and Toyota is pushing them to a front-engine, RWD design, and Porsche already has the Cayman. Buy hey, it's now at the top of my most-wanted list. Please someone make a good design for it, or I'll have to start saving up $ for the new Alfa 4C when it comes out.

That time-line works for me. My car will be 10 years old in December (original owner) and it's replacement time for the mechanically sound yet expensive to operate 02' WRX

I have two options at this point and I desperately hope I like the FFR design and can go with A.
A. Buy a $20k daily driver and the FFR Kit and hope the build goes smoothly. I get fun and economical
-or-
B. Sell the WRX and buy a semi-sporty yet cost efficient $40k car that I keep for 10 years. Sounds bland

Nice, I saw it over on the FFR forum earlier and thought it was a good start. Please continue posting your progress here. I'm all for a nasioc native winning the contest.

Maybe you should consider something used. Unless I've got money to burn or there's something I just have to have, I don't see myself buying a new car ever again. I'd rather get something with 30k or more on it and save 25-50%. You can get plenty of used fun stuff for $20k.
