Sounds good. I await the reviews but have loved my Star Specs. Could be NT01 time for me, but this should be a solid tire choice.

The gap between the old star spec and RA1s/NTs was already borderline too small...

If these things can maintain grip and not degrade through long/hot heat cycles, there might not be a good reason to buy "long-lasting" R-comps anymore.

If they were better in the rain, that might almost seal the deal for me. No need to have rains (probably your street tires) and drys (R-comps)...one tire does it all wet/dry/street/track.

They really can't improve the RA1/NT anymore? That's what, going on 15 years old at this point? I know they tried (and failed) before...but there's gotta be a way.

The old Star Specs' DOT rating is 220, I'd think the NT01 is a much more aggressive tire. It'd better be considering it's an r-comp.

The Toyo RR is the newest version of the Toyo R compound. It's supposed to be far better than the RA1 and not a failure like the R888.

New grippy tires.. nice. I usually use mud and snow tires for rallycross and street use. However , if I ever get another job again, I could get some to use on my wrx, for autocross use.

That does not look like an RA1 replacement...more like a BFG R1, etc. fighter. We'll see. A little bummed if it is, the RA1s are GREAT in the wet at near full-depth.

RR ---> Pirate Tire!

RR are 100 treadwear. Think shaved RA1s without the cost of shaving.

You would love Hankook RS3s then. Phenomenal tire.

Curious to see how these new Star Specs will compare to an RS3 on the track.

All I care about is on the track. Star Specs are great but get greasy fast, which means I'm suddenly missing apexes. I can slide them a bit and rotate on throttle rather easily, which can be beneficial, but there are times when I have to feather the throttle on exit or turn in early because the grip's not there anymore. Definitely curious to see an RS3 vs SS2 track shootout.

Been running Star Specs every year since 2008. Can't wait to get a set of these.

That's a common occurrence when running new Star Specs, especially at full tread. I've always shaved them to 5 to 6/32" to avoid that. AD08s are so close in character to Star Specs and do not have that problem at full tread, but you'll pay more.

No, they're 40 treadwear, compared to the RA1 at 100.

http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/pr...petition-tires

Toyo specfically says longevity is descreased compared to the RA1.

Again, looks much more like an R1 type-tire, rather than a true RA1 replacement/update...

Like the R888 was supposed to be.

The RS3s hold heat well from what I've seen/driven, and are the fastest Street class tire in terms of Time Attack.

And that's the reason why I love RS3s Cheaper than AD08s, RE11s, Star Specs.

Yep. Reports coming in that they are at least a second faster at VIR on an e30.

In my experience, the Star Specs hold heat very well for a street tire. They don't like pressure over 40 psi, though, what's your hot pressure when you get off the track?

I shoot for 36F/38R but definitely go over in the summer months. Should start a little lower then.

^ IIRC, I started at 30 for a day at Barber Motorsports Park, and was 34-36 hot. They never felt greasy that day, for once! I'll be at Atlanta Motorsports Park this weekend and I'll be playing with pressures again.

Reading Option(one of the best Japanese car magazines IMO), they did a side by side comparison between the ZII and the Star Specs. They ran side by side laps, same driver, same car. The ZIIs where faster.....and kept getting faster. They're built from the get go to hold heat.
