Fuel Leak
So i've recently purchased a used 2011 STI with 110,000kms from a dealer here in Canada. Came with carfax and a recent inspection report, which it passed in all categories.
It's now been about a week and a half since purchasing and i've run into the following issues: check engine light - reads P0410. Not a huge issue in my mind, i'll probably do a secondary air pump delete and use an accessport to get rid of emissions codes. My main concern right now: I was driving tonight when i noticed hesitation while giving the car gas - it was very minimal, so i figured maybe i just messed up with clutch or something. As i continued down the road, i stepped on the gas to make sure there wasn't anything going on, however at this point i began to notice the very distinct smell of fuel and the engine failed to respond to how much gas i was giving it. No check engine light has come on at this point. I pulled into a parking lot down the street and came to a stop. the smell of gas is very strong at this point, both outside and inside with all windows rolled up. behind the car i can see a steady trail of gas, and checking my gauge i confirm that i've lost about a little under a quarter tank from the small amount of driving i've done. Underneath the car is a large puddle of gasoline.. at this point I hop back in the vehicle and head back home to park the car. On the drive home the engine is really unresponsive and lugging at times, especially when accelerating from a stop, and shifting gears. at one point i had to turn on my hazard lights as i thought for sure the engine was going to stall from not getting any gas lol. I make it home and park the car. Even when turned off i can see the gas dripping from what appears to be near the center of the car, perhaps slightly towards the driver's side. Looking under the hood i can't see any visible leaks, and seeing how it's dark outside and i don't have a garage or good lighting i have yet to take a thorough look under the car. However, i did attempt to start the car again, and it fired up just fine. When i turned the key on i could hear the fuel pump ?priming? and during the time fuel was being sprayed onto the ground in a large amount. i plugged in my accessport and searched for errors but it found nothing. I'm not very handy with cars, kind of at a loss right now. Guess i should get it to a shop tomorrow morning? Hoping it's something that i might be able to fix myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you will be removing the rear seat and a couple panels to check fuel lines around the pump as well as the pump itself.
Actually, since you just bought it, see if they will check and repair under warranty. |

I've contacted the guy I bought it from and he told me to send it to a particular shop and they will fix it under their supplied warranty. Guess I'll have it towed there and see what happens. I wonder if they will try and charge me anything for the work? |

This is totally unrelated to the last few threads but this is the only category I could find that somewhat relates to my current issue. I have a 2012 base model about 120,000 miles and for the last few weeks the whole engine will just shut off at random. This is more so after its been running for awhile but just the other day it took my 3 times to be able to turn it over. I'm hearing it's probably in my fuel line but am obviously unsure.

Sounds like fuel pump, if you floor it does it accelerate smoothly or feel like it hiccups? If it hiccups could be fuel pump.
Also could be a vacuum leak too which is less common. If your spark plugs haven't been changed could be that as well. |
