Fixed my front spoiler last night and drove it to work today. Amazing. So glad to have an STi again. Beautiful weather too.

Rebuilt my front Calipers.
I knew they needed it when I bought the car up in April, but I had no idea they were this bad. 5 of the 8 pistons were stuck.
Brake feel has improved a bit.

Went to Lowe's hardware aisle, drawer K6 and bought 3/8 plastic plugs to fill the factory holes in my front bumper. Painted with the free touch up paint provided at purchase (I know, not really free). $1.38 is much better than $25 one of the Subaru aftermarket parts house wants. Thanks NASIOC!

Fixing some things on the '96 Brighton coupe that I picked up a couple weeks ago:

- Installed new strut top mounts front and rear. Went with KYB from Rock Auto, they look to be good quality. Time will tell... Old fronts were pretty worn out. Rears may not have needed replacing, but I figured it couldn't hurt. The new mounts definitely makes a noticeable improvement in ride quality, which I wasn't expecting (I just wanted to get rid of the popping and binding in the front top mount bearings).

- Threw on my gold V7 STi wheels with Hankook winter tires. Green (well, mostly) and gold looks so damn good!

- Removed the kludged together WAI and replaced it with a factory filter box and intake from the junkyard. Also removed two catch cans - one for the PCV, one for the valve cover breathers.

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Crazy Ray's for a couple miscellaneous bits and pieces. Most notable is a larger rear swaybar - should be able to grab an 18mm off a Legacy Outback. I'm rockin' a 13mm rear bar now, so the 18mm should be a very noticeable difference!

I have a FSB from 06 WRX wagon, if that would be useful. Free for pickup in 20878.

Successfully grabbed the 18mm Outback rear bar. Need to order some new end links; not much point in installing the bigger bar until I have those in hand.

Also grabbed some of the clips that hold the grille on, so that is now properly affixed. And a new battery tray and battery hold-down bracket, an HVAC panel, a new hood latch, and a leather steering wheel. Not a bad day!

Installed the leather steering wheel, battery tray, battery hold-down, some new windshield washer nozzles (that I had also grabbed at the junkyard), and fiddled around with installing some new horns (big boy horns from a Caddy or something like that to replace the single, anemic stock one). Got too late to finish the horns, so I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Installed my Subaru rain visors I picked up over the weekend.

Also got my estimate on my front end damage due to flying cardboard on 264. Car is getting fixed beginning of February. Nothing like filing my first claim on my one month old car.

Oh and made an appointment for tint for Saturday. Anniversary gift from the gf.

Got the big boy horns installed. Nothing special, one in front of the battery (where the weak stock horn was) and one on the opposite site (where the ABS would be on an ABS car).

Also took advantage of the "warm" weather and threw some paint on a new mid-pipe. Flanges on the existing mid-pipe are heavily corroded, to the point the front flange (where the donut gasket is) actually has a big hole in it, and the rear flange is flaking away. The new pipe is just a non-stainless Walker replacement, so nothing special. My experience with non-stainless piping is that it actually holds up pretty well, but the flanges, hangers, and welds rust. So, I put a couple coats of high temp primer and high temp engine paint on those areas. Hopefully I can install the pipe this weekend.

The CURSE!

Today, I checked my oil level. It's too high, but I'd rather that than be too low on this glass-piston EJ255...

JDM rain visors?

didn't think cardboard would mess a car up that bad...

Well that's what it looked like to me. It was the interstate and I had no time to do anything but hit it while it was in the air. Did look like it had some of those hardcore white box straps around it still too.

Of course. I used the authentic JDM ones I had on my 08 Si. Looks hella dope. Waiting on the red Subaru badges to come in.

- Swapped out the rear sway bar with the 18mm bar I grabbed at the junkyard, and installed front and rear Kartboy end links while I was at it.

- Revamped the exhaust, which mostly consisted of installing a new mid-pipe, which I lengthened by ~2" using a pipe adapter from Autozone and a couple band clamps.

The mid-pipe was an original 2.5RS piece from a '98, I believe. The axle-back is an STI muffler. When I got the car, the front hanger on the muffler had 2 rubber hangers daisy-chained together:

The hanger on the mid-pipe was about 3" too low:

The mid-pipe was too short (if I unthreaded that bolt, the flanges would spring apart almost 2"):

And the flanges at both ends of the mid-pipe were seriously degraded by rust issues:

So, I removed the extra rubber hanger from the front muffler hanger, which got the inlet of the axle-back up where it's supposed to be. That, in turn, allowed the mid-pipe to be up where it's supposed to be. I cut the new mid-pipe aft of the hanger, installed the little extension piece, and clamped it all together.

Yeah, I could've paid someone to weld the extension in there, but the band clamps will do the trick just fine.

Edit: And no, I did not remove the shipping label that Rock Auto wrapped around the mid-pipe. It'll help protect the steel from road debris!

Today's project was brakes, so back to the auto hobby shop on the base I went. Unfortunately, I only got 1/2 as much done as I wanted, because I failed to do my homework properly ahead of time. I was told the car had '02 WRX brakes, and I knew that was a transition year for front calipers. KNS Brakes has a handy page with pictures of the calipers so you can figure out what you've got - https://www.knsbrakes.com/c/static-wrx-pad-shape.

So, based on their pics I knew I had the D721 style front calipers. The rear calipers don't have quite as obvious a visual cue to look for, but based on the table on KNS's page, silly me assumed that I had the D770 style rear calipers. I bought "H6" caliper brackets and rotors to do the H6 upgrade since I thought I already had the right calipers.

Turns out, I don't have the D770 calipers, so the brackets and pads I bought for the rear won't work with the calipers I've got. Need to pick up some of the correct calipers, and then I can do the rears. I did check the left rear, I think the piston was jammed up a bit, but I got it to move.

So, today I:
- Replaced the front pads.
- Flushed and bled the brakes front and rear. The color of the old fluid was about the same as iced tea.
- Found a leak from one of the hard lines on the PS rack at a fitting. Looking at the parts diagram for the rack, the hard line is available separately (which is good - don't have to get a whole rack), and there's an o-ring at that fitting, so hopefully that'll be a relatively easy fix.
