Bristol Bullet Set to Debut July 26 with BMW V8 Power

Bristol Cars has announced the production nameplate for its Project Pinnacle.

The British automaker introduced the Project Pinnacle concept at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and now it is teasing the Bristol Bullet that will debut on July 26. Although there aren’t very many details on Bristol Cars’ first real product since 2011, the Bristol Bullet will be powered by a 4.8-liter V8 engine sourced from BMW. Its chassis will be made from lightweight, carbon fiber materials instead of aluminum, which was used on previous Bristol models.

The Project Pinnacle concept that debuted at Goodwood was developed to celebrate the automaker’s 70th anniversary in 2015 and is the first car from Bristol since the Fighter that was sold from 2004 to 2011. The company chose to use a V8 engine to pay respect to its history, rather than turn to an electrified powertrain, which was first rumored.

Expect the Bristol Bullet to head to production early next year and it will draw heavily on Project Pinnacle.

The Bullet name for the production version of the Project Pinnacle concept car was revealed last week, along with a new image featuring the words 'Bristol Cars reborn July 2016' and a reveal date of the 26 July.

That followed the Project Pinnacle concept making an appearance in camouflaged form at the this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

We're yet to be given the car’s exact specifications, but we do know it has a naturally aspirated 4.8-litre BMW V8 engine and that its chassis is made from lightweight, carbonfibre composite materials. This is instead of aluminium, which was used on previous Bristols.

The Project Pinnacle was developed in celebration of Bristol's 70th anniversary as a car maker in 2015, and is the first car from the manufacturer since the Fighter sports car, which was on sale from 2004 to 2011.

Olde-world car-maker rescued from bankruptcy by Bristol enthusiast, revived brand to focus on restoration and restomods before introducing new model

Bristol Cars has been brought back from the dead following the famous British sports car maker was liquidated last year.

Snapped up by Jason Wharton a property developer and Bristol enthusiast, the plan for the 76-year-old car-maker famous for its aviation-inspired hand-built luxury cars is to restructure the car-maker to a business that will restore and sell classic Bristols.




As part of its revival, Bristol will move from its Kensington High Street location in London back to its home city of Bristol in the West Country.

Speaking to Autocar, Wharton said Bristol would concentrate on offering ‘remastered’ or restomod versions of the Fighter two-seater and the 411 before launching an all-new model in 2025.

The new sports car, set to be named the Buccaneer, will be “very much in the traditional Bristol mould’ but make extensive use of modern tech and advanced materials.


Purchasing the remains of the liquidated car-maker has given its new owner access to original designs, tolling and spare parts that will enable Bristol to improve and modernise existing models, if there’s demand.

Part of the updates for the 411 model, for example, involve replacing its ancient rear live axle with a completely independent set-up.

Owners of both the 411 and, even the V10-powered Fighter can also take up Bristol’s offer of replacing their current powertrain with a Chrysler-sourced 6.4-litre Hemi V8 that’s combined with a more modern eight-speed automatic.


Bristol will build and develop a remastered versions of the 411 and Fighter prototypes before the end of 2021.

There’s no word on the new Buccaneer, although it’s tipped to maintain the six-decade-long tradition of Bristols using a Chrysler-sourced V8, suggesting it could be powered by a Hellcat powertrain – if still available in 2025.

Despite the impending UK combustion ban set to be introduced in 2030, Wharton told the Brit mag that he was “relaxed” about the potential of developing a powerful V8 Bristol as the car-maker’s current loyal base of customers have indicated their interest in such a vehicle.

Bristol’s new owner also believes suitable donor hybrid and EV powertrains will also become available in the near future.
