HIH VF39 Turbo from 2005 Subaru WRX STI
My 2005 Subaru WRX STI has been consuming oil... my detective skills point towards my VF39 turbo going out. Does anyone have any suggestions on replacement cores or kits?

Any old good condition VF39 will do and they are cheap used. For a lot more you can rebuild yours or another one. For 99.5% of people this is not an end user operation unless you have a 20,000 RPM balancing machine in your garage. You could build it if you have the skills but it will require a shop to balance, so for most its easier to just have this work farmed out. Google can find you rebuild kits, otherwise google local turbo shops and ask for rebuild quotes and let them source the parts.

I was hoping to rebuild the one I have and have had some difficulty finding the correct core for the VF39 rebuild. I don't have the balancing machine so I would plan to take it to a local turbo shop.
I have considered buying a new grimmspeed turbo as well. Definitely trying to install the best option for the car in the long run. But atm I just need to fix the oil consumption issue in the turbo core. New turbo or rebuild dilemma |
