Hmm... I'll have to toss my Z4 back in and have a look.

The z4 is not a flash programmable ecu... unless modified with an add on daughterboard( rare back in the day scoobyecu). It will have a removable chip(eprom) in it if it has been chipped. If not you will just have the factory board with outline where the chip would go.

There are a few options... but none really with support here in the US. I would pm ROB. It seems he has perfected a nice and safe chip setup which will bring you to 16psi and get you a good kick in the pants. I would definitely try one of his chips out if I weren't going big turbo.

Nice and safe to 16 p.s.i is what im running now...im spiking at 17-18.5 but usually run solid at 15-16 in that range.

Must be something else done somewhere i guess.

And a lil update, I'm now not 100% sure that my motor is a V2 Wrx. I have concluded that it is closed deck and with the many helpful threads on that. As well confirmed that turbo is td05h. So maybe thats where the extra power is coming. And i do not have any information as for block identification except for the numbers stamped on it. Front serial number is 23212 located next to ej20 emblem where block joins, and rear of block on drivers side reads 140318. I do have the black slanty intercooler though, which shows wrx. But the only thing that is throwing me off is the numbers under the oil cap, 94 8 so translate to august 94, weird cant find any info on motors with build dates that line up. Nice little power plant though. going to try to see if the sticker is still on the back of the head, crosses fingers.

Can you take a picture of the inside of your ecu. I have the exact engine... turbo... and ecu as you and it is not set from the factory at that boost. It should hit around 14.5 then taper off to 12 or so.
I also wouldnt say you are hitting a nice and safe boost level since the jdm z4 ecu runs alot of timing and is tuned very aggressively for us since the 100ron in japan is equivalent to 95-96 octane over here. Also the black slanty ic is extremely small for such a tune. Most chips focus on a safer tune at 16psi for our premium unleaded gas.
I want to see the inside of your ecu because it may be modified differently than chipped and would explain why yours is not functioning as factory.

That looks pretty stock to me. Does your car have any added on electronics.. such as fcd or mbc?
I know we have the same motor because you stated that you have a V2 WRX, closed deck, tdo5 16g with z4 ecu ... right? Same Here.

Mine used to have the black slanty as well... I now have front mount. The only difference with mine is the options as mine is V-Limited, which gives different tranny *close ratio gearbox, abs, different seats and some exterior mods...and a few other bits not standard on the wrx, The actual motor IS the same.

Default Hmmm....

I said i thought it was a V2 but was the V2 built in august of 04???? because thats the date under my oil cap. Not that its sufficient enough to prove the year, turbo is td05h, which from another thread i seen came on the v1 sti.
So really i dont know if we have the same motor, most likely, I do not currently have any pics of my motor but can be taken during the day. If you have any post it on here and ill try to compare.

V2 started in went from 94 to 96, but it still wouldn't matter... the closed deck is usually found on V1 and is very rare for a V2 car... it is the same motor though.

I have no history beyond what is currently sitting in my car, they did not have the vin plate im the third person to have this motor and the other two can't shed any light, but happy enough for being closed deck.

Matt... I will get that for you in a day or so. I need to take some more pictures of the car anyway.

What did you gather from the other guy on here with the V-limited? Any useful information?

He never got the info to me. Though your post above got me even more curious. The one here in Colorado that I worked on has the 6K STi ECU. You're sure yours is a Z4?

Matt you know there were two versions of the V-limited: WRX V-Limited and the WRX RA-STi VerII V-Limited.

It would make sense that the WRX VL came with a Z4 ECU as it was mechanically the same as the 95 WRX sedan.

is there any good way to tell if the engine came from a V-Limited?

according to the Kenandcaterina (SP) websight my clip that i bought was a WRX V-Limited also... it had the Z4 ECU with TDO5h but it is open deck block, and came with the same trans as the V2 STI and 555 car.

any more info?

Also if you have the whole car... or the clip, it is supposedly the only one with abs. TY752VB4AA is the transmission code on my car.... the gears are pretty close when driving. My ecu is z4

yep same trans code as mine, engine code is EJ20GDW5HE. but my car did not come with ABS.

according to http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html this engine only came in the V-Limited and the Vir-2 STI. now i now this webpage dose not know everything. but that is all we have.

Ken and Catherine contains a lot of errors. The "5" in the DW5HE just means it was the 5th year of production. But the GC8C48D chassis code contains a "4" in the corresponding position. There's a lot of inconsistencies like that on their site. They've got 1994 cars listed as 5th year of production and then proceed to list 1995 cars as 4th year of production. And they've even got 1996 cars listed at 4th year of production chassis. This is part of why I am always asking people for vin plates. I want to see what Subaru says, not what Ken and Catherine say.

Furthermore, STi's have a "P" in the 9th position of the applied engine code. They've got a bunch of cars they are calling "STi" that don't have that, and they were definitely wrong in that department on my v1 STi wagon, which had a totally different applied engine code than they said it should.
