Meh, it's all passive aggressive finger pointing. I like that Lewis asked Grosean, "Why would you need clarification on it?", like asking, "When are YOU ever going to win?" Hah.

Why is Grosjean even allowed to sit in those meetings?
On the other hand it is good that he was there and asked those questions so that we now know that he is not just a subpar driver but also a jerk.

Grosjean is the president Grand Prix Drivers Association. Its his job to bring up saftey concerns.

Notice how Hamilton tries defect the issue over to Vettel and the steering wheel.

Look at Romain rock the boat, bravo.

Consistency of rules enforcement is important.

If it can't be done, change the rules.

Haven't drivers been fined for doing such things in the past? (belt removal while on track)

yup, rules should be consistently enforced.

I've always assumed that when drivers undid belts on the cool-down lap that they were fined, nobody reported these to the media (or if they did, the media didn't find it to be a topic worth writing about) and life went on.

none of that changes the fact that Grosjean sucks.

Good point, I had forgotten that.
His very own driving is a constant safety concern, has he ever brought this up?

Well, it's a lot cleaner than before he nearly decapitated Alonso.

Yes. He was voted by the drivers. Vettel is the other one.

http://motorsports.nbcsports.com/tag...s-association/

Romain Grosjean has been made a director of the Grand Prix Drivers Association by his fellow Formula 1 drivers, taking over from Jenson Button.

After stepping back from his McLaren F1 race seat at the end of last year, Button has not been present at any grands prix so far this year, but is due to race in Monaco when Fernando Alonso is at the Indianapolis 500.

The GPDA held a vote for its new director during the Russian Grand Prix weekend, with Grosjean being nominated by his peers to take over the role.

Grosjean races for NASCAR team co-owner Gene Haas' eponymous F1 team, and is one of the sport's longest-serving drivers, having made his debut back in 2009 with Renault.

Grosjean joins fellow director Sebastian Vettel and chairman Alexander Wurz in running the GPDA.

"In the GPDA assembly held in Sochi on Friday 28 April, Romain Grosjean was elected GPDA director, replacing Jenson Button who stepped down from the position as a result of not permanently racing in the 2017 F1 world championship," a short statement from the GPDA reads.

"I am proud to have been elected by my peers as director of the GPDA. We race drivers don't always hold the same opinion, but as a group we are united in wanting the best for our sport," Grosjean said.

"I believe was have an important role and duty to coordinate between each other and support the stakeholders in the evolution of the sport."

"It was a pleasure working with Jenson over the past few years as he always puts in the interests of the drivers and the sport first. Thanks JB for all your effort," Wurz added.

"Over recent years Romain has been a very active GPDA member. He has a lot of energy and thoughts about our sport and Sebastian. I welcome him as a great addition to the Grand Prix Drivers Association board."

Nothing in the way that Grosjean asked that question seemed to be in the interests of safety, and certainly in his continued pestering after seemed to really drive it home that he was just being an *******.

Is Will Buxton still going to be commentating? His enthusiasm for the sport is really great. I won't miss any of the others.

did we read the same article?

Quote:
Grosjean: "I don't want to start an argument or whatever, I just want to know the rules, simple as that."

Whiting: "Well I don't think you should undo your belts. I think we've see what can happen on a slowing-down lap, so I think it's a very bad practice to undo your belts."
He's smart enough to know Charlie's answer would be telling.

"Safety Belts
Drivers must be properly restrained in their seat by safety belts in conformity with the specifications of Appendix J for the vehicle concerned, at all times during a competition when it is mobile on a circuit, pit lane, special stage or competition course."

Whiting should retire.

calling attention to ensure safety is great.

it was what he followed up with at 2:44 in the video above that makes it seem like he was being a bit skeevy, rather than concerned about safety. and maybe I'm being clouded by how bad of a driver he is.

If you're referring to the driver's briefing video, it was uploaded by Formula1, so I'm guessing they're fine with it being on Youtube.

And done.

I don't see his comments as motivated, except in regard to consistency of rules, etc. Sure his comment was directed at something Lewis did, that's what happened.

I think he's speaking towards the lack of, and therefore need, for better rules to keep these incidents cut and dry. Lewis said he undid his belts, Sebastian took his wheel with him. Yet, there was no enforcement.

I could imagine the next team/driver facing this rule on the other side would have grounds for some protest. Maybe even appeal. It's a slippery slope. FOM (what is it called now?) And the FIA could nip this in the bud, will they?

Just like Indy 05, politics show's itself in F1 every now and then. It usually works out.

Why Charlie gets to pick when a rule matters, and when it doesn't is a good debate. I think. Is it a collaborative decision with the stewards?

It would not be hard to eliminate either of these issues from concern, with proper leadership.

Edit:

Oh and, Please let it be JPM!
