RHD Legacy Mail Car
Hey guys i am new to the forums but had a few questions....I got a line on a RHD legacy mail car, and i was just wondering what kind of motor i could drop into this bad lad.....EJ20 seems like the best possible option.....And would the tranny bolt up or would i need a whole new drivetrain to make it work??? Any help is appreciated, and i think it would be the ultimate sleeper and RHD would ROCK!!!!!

Hopefully many of the more knowledgeable of the forum will chime in... But, fwiw, go over the transmission carefully. I've talked to two of the ladies around here who drive RFD routes and they have had to rebuild their transmissions at least once, and they are automatics. I'm assuming yours will be, as well. I would be concerned, especially if the car has high mileage. Besides, you'd prefer a manual shifter in your left hand, now wouldn't you?
I'm assuming the original engine is a 2.2? If you're going to do an engine swap anyway, I'm sure there will be those who will point you in the direction of a (re)built 2.2, especially if the transmission is okay or you are going to get it rebuilt. For oddity's sake, RHD would be super keen and neat-o. But, for practicality... Remember, ATMs, toll booth windows, and fast food take-out windows are on the other side of the car. I'm anxious to read what replies you get. Good luck. |

chances are if you want an ej20 you will get the tranny also...but you could use the auto tranny without and problems.. you just need an automatic ecu.

First off pull up a chair and take a look around the site and other subaru websites too. You could put in the twin turbo legacy engine into since it's already right hand drive. The left hand drive cars need major work to get this engine to fit properly.
You can find these engines cheap as nobody really wants them as they're hard to fit. I would look for a complete front clip if i were going to do the swap as you would have everything there. You could just piece stuff together, but that would take forever and cost more. I was thinking about buying a local postal car and having some fun with it, but have too many cars as it is. B |

being you have the RHD legacy, you could actually fit the twin turbo engine in there

Yeah, TT motor!! that'd be cool and unique.
Or you could swap in an EJ22T from a US legacy (dont think the postal was a T). But be sure you always have a passenger for those drive-throughs. |

I'd go initially with the B4 twin turbo swap. Then swap bottom ends with an ej257 to get that smooth torque delivery.
but if your looking for instant long and reliable power delivery and don't know much about cars get a nissan. Bigger enthusist group, cheaper parts and more easy to aquire information Also, tell me where this wagon is and how much. I'll buy it. |
