Default Random 'Help me pick a parts vendor' thread

Not really a problem, but I'm about to pull the trigger on some Cobb parts. Widely available and, as far as I can tell, cost the same regardless of who you buy from. They pretty much all do free shipping at these price levels.

I'd tend to buy local, but seems literally the only way I could pay more is by adding in sales tax. Would do used in a heartbeat, but have been surfing the classifieds/CL/Ebay/Marketplace for months with nothing to show.

At the point where I'm either going to pull the trigger on what I actually want or risk doing something stupid out of inertia, figured I'd mine the brain trust. Let's hear your favorite Subaru parts vendor and why you think I should throw a few hundred in their general direction.

Touchy-feely responses like 'he's a good guy' or 'manager's sister is hot' totally within bounds here. PM pics plz.

One place I can say to avoid is subie speed!! I live in the same state, 1 1/2 hours away, and it still takes them 5-7 days to ship me an envelope with emblems in it. They are dead slow and offer a 5% savings on major holidays, that to me is a slap in the face, 5% doesn’t even cover the damn taxes. IIR and RSD aren’t the cheapest but seem to be my go to. I try to be cheap and shop around but if you can get all your goods at one place then why not. If I can, I try to buy directly from the manufacturer, ( Ex:Perrin and grimspeed). I’ve been switching all my stuff over to grimspeed when they have what I’m looking for. I like there craftsmanship, there people, Made in the USA with extreme pride, and there real legit car guys.

Subispeed doesn't get a dollar from me until they put an option on their home page to select pre-VA models. Well, now never...

ImportImage is in FL. I'm in FL. Home state isn't an advantage here.

Rallysport is where I was going to buy from. My cart has been filled for two months now. Trigger finger is soooo itchy!

Cobb direct is also an option. I kind of like buying from resellers though. Feels like supporting two companies at once. Maybe not, but it feels that way.

Thank you!

I like Import Image Racing. If your in FL and they have it in stock you usually get it in a day or so. They are really quick and I have had no issues with any of my orders. They have a rewards program that gives you points toward Gift cards for more mods down the road which helps the wallet.

I should probably message them and see if they do any side benefits. I might pay the tax if they have a way to sweeten the deal.

As was previously said, I also buy direct where/when I can. Going back to the parent company * IF * an issues arises I have always got very fast support and turn-around.

Also depends on what parts you are looking for as to who best to deal with

I grabbed the Perrin AOS and I am really picky. I didn’t like some of the strait fittings they sent with the kit. They were high quality but if I could clean up the look with a 90 that’s what I wanted. I believe the kit has 2 90s in it, I emailed asking to purchase a few more 90s as there not listed separate. I received an email reply stating that they could do that for me, they also stated that they used my address from the original order as were shipping them out free of charge. They arrived within 2 days FREE, that’s where it’s at IMO!! Customer service can make or break a company.

MAPerformance has been good to me in the past. Ian used to be really active on these boards but I don't know if he's around anymore or even with the company still. Their handle on here is just "MAPerformance" IIRC. They had a rewards program where you earn 2% back in "loyalty points" which you can redeem on future purchases. They are based in Minnesota.

I purchased some stuff from Cygnus Performance lately also which many people consider to be the best as far as anything brakes/suspension/chassis related goes. Geoff is super knowledgeable and has a lot of good technical write-ups on their FB page. They actually provide good insight and advice regarding which parts are best for your specific goals and don't just say **** like "bro get the biggest rear sway bar you can YAY NO MORE UNDERSTEER".

Other than that, as others have mentioned, direct from the manufacturer is also good too and is the best way to support them directly.

When I buy Cobb stuff I usually just buy direct from Cobb. I like how they ship timely and usually gets to me within 1-2 days.

As for MAPerformance, I too have had good experience with them. Among other things, I bought their own brand catback for my FiestaST some time ago. Not the best fitment, but it has nice welds and sounds good. I think it even extracted some butt-dyno registering power increases. I bought some Cobb hangers from them too and sourced a few split lock collars from McMaster Carr to align the exhaust so that it would not rub the heat shield bolts, etc.

You guys reminded me that I had a 10% off coupon at MAP that I hadn't used (yay).

I checked and Cobb is excluded (boo).

I'll probably buy Cobb direct and use my MAP code on something else I need. Thanks everyone!
