Default Support Our Troops and various other annoying car magnets

Sure, the idea itself is admirable, but is anyone else getting sick and tired of seeing these magnets plastered all over cars already? I'm not trying to start a political debate here... I'll just say that I do, in fact, "Support Our Troops" (tm) as well. But these people... these people with 3 and 4 magnets on their car, fashioned in various patterns, have to go. If you support our troops, fine... but there are 1000 ways that you can take an active part in your support other than slapping a bunch of godamn magnets on your car.

There, I said it. I feel better now.

Meh, I don't mind. It's gotta be hard having a loved one in Iraq. If putting stuff on their car makes them feel better, why not.

Just be glad you don't see "baby on board" anymore.

yeah he's the man.

I was actually joking with some friends about getting something like that to stick on my wagon to make it even more sleeper.

It was a tossup between a yellow ribbon and a soccer ball sticker.

My favorite are the "Support Bush and our Troops" stickers that are on some cars here. I'll support troops because they are just doing their job and are in danger but Bush, hell no.

I was thinking about something very similar yesterday. I saw one of those "FDNY - Fallen - But not forgotten" stickers on the back of someone's SUV. I never paid much thought to it before, but for some reason what came to mind about it pissed me off in a way. I have no problems with people showing their support over a tragedy. What I did have a problem with, was the idea that someone siezed this tragedy as an opportunity to make a quick buck by selling these stickers. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. Some asshats are laughing their way to the bank I'm sure.

putting magnets on their cars makes people think they are doing something. the support is great, i mean hell the last three years has been great to be a Marine.
For some strange reson Americans like to use their cars as rolling "this is how i feel" platforms. Men like to say they enjoy anal sex with other men, people like to tell you about their favorite dogs, stupid moms feel like they need to tell you that there is a baby on board, dumb fat white kids like to tell the cop that no, he is not going to get a doughnut and yes he is bad, stupid white catholics like to warn you that incase of rapture that their car will be empty, and it seems like almost everyone wants to let the highway know about their political feelings.

i find it very annoying.

but again, thanks a million for the support. i have never recieved so many hand shakes, free meals, and all around kind words, ever. SO i guess if you must put a giant magnet yellow bow on the back of your F250 in order to feel like you are doing your part in fighting the war on terror, go for it. Instead maybe take the bus once a week or carpool and do your tiny part in lowering our nations usage of forign oil.

All money made off the magnets should got to some charity or to families who have lost a loved one overseas.

Do people get these as a token of appreciation from a charity organization or do they just buy the sticker/magnet for $0.93 or what ever it's worth?

Erik, very insightful!

I am just waiting a few years down the line, when the stickers are no longer 'trendy' and are faded and cracked and torn.. Sort of like all the US Flags that people bought and stuck on their cars right after 9/11, and never bothered keeping in good shape.

it is just my oppinion. sorry if it ticks anyone off.
and as for the flag thing... ugh, that gets me seeing red. Look people, take down your beat up torn and fraying flag and dispose of it properly. As for hanging flags off antennas, windows, and other assorted parts of your car, maybe they should do some reading up on how to properly display a flag before they look like a fool. Flags are not to be worn as clothing, be incorperated in clothing, be worn about the body kid rock style or hung by a pole until it rots away. People for whatever personal reason they had at the time, died for that flag and to protect the people who served and lived under it.
If you happen to own a flag, please run a search and take 5 min of your time to read up on how to maintain it properly, dispose of it properly, and display it properly. Plastering one backwards on the back of your jetta and letting it get all sun faded, scraped, and plastered in bird crap and road grime is not the way our colors should be flown.
sorry to rant, just agreeing with you.

Actually, most of the ribbon magnets (at least around here in upstate NY) are sold by the families of soldiers. The profits go to send care packages overseas.... I bought one from my company, since three of the people who work with me have sons/brothers/loved ones in Iraq.

Ditto in PA.

These aren't just made to show your support. By buying them, you are actually supporting our troops overseas by donating the money.

I'd buy one, but it would probably end up on my refrigerator and not the trunk of my car.

If I ever have a kid who has a candy sale I'm going to Spam the whole damn company, mark my words!

There is no separation of church and state. There IS a rule against the government setting up its own church though.
