Yeah, im thinking of doing a slight drop with the prodrive springs and kyb agx 3 way adjustable struts. Nothing crazy, but will improve the look. Im not in a rush though, I love having the clearance because I offroad/rally the ***** outa my car! I really should get a skidplate before i lower it...

I too used the Rustoleum Midnight black, awesome color. Need to paint the other 2 sets of wheels still.

I wonder what stock 2.5i wheels would look like painted gloss black on a black car...

Does anybody have pics of gloss black 2.5i wheels on any car? I can just photoshop them on my car if I can find some. I tried changing the color in PS but it doesn't turn out very realistic...

So I have read and looked through this whole tread!! It took a while, but I was wondering the absolute best way to do this? I have stock 02' wheels and i'm sick of the original color and need a change! How long does it take usually? Just let me know, Thanks!

you can follow my link in post 6, or there's a quick description in post 7.
Mine took a few days, but I changed colors after the first wheel. Plus I let the paint dry overnight before I did the clear and I let the clear dry over night as well. Its not as hard as you think. Just find the color you want. Oh, I think you need to watch how cold it is when you paint. It dries weird if its too cold. -joel |

Many people have painted their wheels with the tires mounted, but I personally dismounted and then took one day for prep (my wheels were badly chipped and scratched from rally-x) and another day for painting. I think it's a bit easier to not have to tape much off if you dismount the tires.
Also, then you can have the tires rebalanced with tape weights on the inside so you don't have a tacky wheel weight that is painted over - the wheel weights will just barely clear the calipers. Just make sure they are a low profile wheel weight. THe ones that Discount Tires used were small enough to clear the calipers just fine. |
