Default Need help figgureing tire size and looking for advice on snow tires.

I'm looking for winter tires w/ no studs, life-span doesn't need to be too long as I can replace every season.
I have a set of 15x7 rims I am going to use for the winter months while I powder-coat my RL7s. What can I fit under a 94 wagon setup on v5 suspension?

I have 195/60-r15 Nokian Hakka2's (no studs) and love them. They are fantastic on snow, particularly during and immediately after big snow storms. On pavement they are fine, I've taken them on long 500 mile weekend trips before with no issues. You just have to be careful on ice.

Can you give me more input on the pavement feel? Mushy? Not so responsive?
Thanks. I'll add them to my list to read about.

Well I went from RE92's to Hakka's and hardly noticed a difference. The next spring I put on Toyo Proxes4's (for summer use) and noticed an improvement in handling on dry pavement. If you're taking the Hakka's to the track, or blasting around cloverleaf onramps at twice the speed limit they may not suit you, but for everyday driving, even spirited, they are fine.

I am running proxie 4s right now and to be honest, I am not real impressed with the winter stability of these tires. They are a good all around tire and communicate the limit well, but I am looking for something more winter and performance oriented since i'll have a dedicated set of rims for snow.

I wasn't suggesting using P4's for winter. I only use the them as a summer tire too. They call them all-seasons, but they just bearly fit in that catagory. What I meant in my previous post was the Hakka's and the RE92's handle about the same on dry pavement, neither of which is as good as the P4.

BTW The third sentence is referring to the handling capabilities of the Hakka's on dry pavement not the P4's.

I ran Dunlop Wintersport M3s on my STI last year and they were great - not too mushy in the dry, and great in the snow (3 limited slip diffs help too ).

I considered the Blizzak LM22 or LM25, but went with the Dunlops due to availability at the time.

We put Nokian RSIs on my wife's RS wagon, and they are much softer and a bit squirrely in the dry, but they rock in deep snow.

I have just replaced my 2013 Forester with a 2015 Impreza 5 door sport and my question is can I use my almost brand new Toyo GSI 5 in size 205-65-R16(I went up one profile and went down one width my thinking being a little narrower put more pounds per square inch on the ground) The 2015 Impreza is equipped with 205-50-R17 and I am wondering if I can use my 16 snows in place of the 17s.

Not sure why you bumped a 10 year old thread to ask this question....

A 205/65-16 is 36mm (1.41") taller in diameter than a 205/50-17. That would throw your speedo off by over 5%, and would increase the gearing and slow your acceleration, making your car even more gutless than it already is. Who knows if you could actually fit that tire without clearance issues.

Take a look:
http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...2=7&offset2=48

205/55-16 would be the appropriate 16" wheel tire size.
