Default 235/45/17 tires fit on oem 09 wrx rims......

and if so would they rub with sti springs installed....

Isn't that a 7" wheel? If so, 235s are too wide. 225/45/17 would be the largest I'd go.

Tou can probably go with 235/40 17 they will fit the rim. I have 09 wheels on my 07 wagon but I went 225/45 17 with no issues

Is it a good idea? No


225 at the widest, 215 ideally for that size wheel.
