STX BRZ/FRS Setup-Discussion Thread
This thread will be for People pursuing STX in the BRZ.
Lots of "Different" kind of info here vs. the WRX..not much will cross over. So some basic STX Rules: -Allowed 265 tires on 9 in wheels if needed> -Allowed Tune, E85, Headers w/cat, exhaust system and intake system up to the throttle body. -sway bars, Bushings, Endlinks, Camber plates and any shock/spring package availalbe -aftermarket BBK as long as they are the same size or larger than stock. Brake Lines can be changed to Stainless with any fluid. -Lightweight battery as long as it puts out the same voltage. and you can re-locate it if needed to the trunk area. -engine and tranny mounts as long as they are NOT solid -Any LSD. -Any Seats can be used but there is a minimum weight. What CAN'T BE DONE: -no engine internals -no Tranny/rear diff Gear changes -no throttlebody work -Radiators have to comply with Stock thats the Jest of it...there's other particular rules. I can save you $250...
Splitters are not legal in ST. Also if you went with aluminum seat, like Ultrashields, or Kirkeys, you could get both for about the $750 price not each. It depends on what you want. As far as the lottery goes.... ONLY IF I DON'T GET IT FIRST! |

Yeah unfortunately right now Ecutek is the only game in town for the BRZ/FR-S and Cobb has zero interest in the car. If you are willing to just get your car tuned (say you live near a tuner) you can save $350 and not get the cable which lets you reflash the ECU yourself, but then when updates come or new features come out you are out of luck or need to borrow a cable from someone. I was hoping open source tuning would be further along but it's not yet.
You can probably get an LSD for a bit cheaper than that. The OS Giken one just released is around $2K, Cusco is around $1500 and I think the Kaaz is a little cheaper yet. Definitely look for used seats. I have a pair of Sparco Prodrives which have been sitting in my garage for years now. Too bad they are so expensive to ship. |

Well the ECUtek cable and license is $700. Anything beyond that is what the tuner is actually charging you.

255 will be my replacement...MOST likely..however.. I know someone thats using 255 RS3s right now...and with the extra weight penalty, he didn't think it was worth it ..meaning he thinks he's giving up time... soo he wishes he would have went to 245's instead...265's..absolutely overweight for little to no gains..and maybe even given up some time... I didn't mention it because I still have PLENTY of Rubber left for 2013..3000 miles and 107 runs..I will say that the car is VERY EASY on tires...so far.. I havn't even got to the real Goodie of the tire yet... 7/32's right now starting off at 9/32's..

I too have been very happy with how easy on tires the BRZ is. I only have 1.5 degrees camber up front and 1.0 in the back and my wear has been light AND even. I've run Star Specs and R-comps with this alignment and the wear has been good on both types of tires.

Why waste $2K on a BBK? That shouldn't be necessary for an AutoX car.
Now...if you are wanting to do other stuff beyond AutoX, then I understand. |

In STX it's really for weight reduction and the fact it's a popular mod people do on street cars whether it provides benefit or not on an autocross course. It's certainly pretty far down the list for most people unless you are also tracking the car. It's a way to drop 20+ lbs of weight from the front.

That's surprising. I can see that benefit, then.
Also, from an aesthetic perspective, the BBK would look much better under a set of 17's than the stockers. |

yep...its all about the weight.. matter of fact contemplating Exhaust Strategy right now.. With the header back to be completely replaced for probably about 50lbs of weight savings over the stock stuff.. and thats a guess right now, 50lbs. won't know til some other items become available to see how close that is to the actual savings. Triple benefit on the BBK..
