Default iPod integration kit now available for Legacy, Outback, and Tribeca

I got this info sent over to me from an anonymous source:

Quote:
Subaru of America, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the iPod Interface Kit, part number
H621SXA200 for the 2009 Legacy, Outback and Tribeca models. Dealer cost of the iPod Interface Kit
through the warehouse is $xxx, with a MSRP of $175.00. The Port installed code is E9C, with a
dealer cost of $xxx and a MSRP of $223.00. The new iPod Interface Kit will also cover several
years of application by vehicle model line. Model year application information follows:
Legacy and Outback – 2007 to 2009 models without Satellite Radio
Tribeca – 2007 to 2009 models without Satellite Radio, and without Rear Seat Entertainment
Please keep in mind that you can install either the iPod Interface Kit or the Satellite Radio Kit on these
models, but not both accessories on the same vehicle. Another item to also keep in mind is that the 4th
Generation Nano and the 2nd Generation iPhone will not recharge when connected to the iPod
Interface Kit. All other functions are still supported by the iPod Interface. An adapter is currently
under development, (estimated release May/June), that will restore the battery re-charging capabilities
of the iPod Interface Kit with the latest Generation of Apple Nano and iPhone products.
Detailed information for the 2009 Legacy, Outback and Tribeca Accessories including part numbers,
pricing, and model applications have been posted on Subarunet.com under Fixed Ops-Marketing/
Accessories for dealers to view or download.
Too bad Tribeca owners who want it all and have the rear-entertainment package get screwed by this.

'06 Tribeca owners, AS ALWAYS, get screwed with no chance of an upgrade.

If it's anything like the system in my 08 STi, it's a piece of junk. What a waste of money. It's amazing you could take something so simple and easy to use like an IPOD and make it so unintuitive (is that a word?). I use the accessory cable and control everything from my IPOD.

I think it is absolutely retarded that you have to forgo rear DVD and Satellite Radio to get this installed. If someone wants to have it all, they should be able to. Its like Subaru is deliberately turning away people's money! My next Tribeca MUST have the ability to have Rear Entertainment (hopefully Blu-Ray by then), Nav (hopefully with traffic info by then), Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, AND iPod Integration while still retaining an additional Aux jack in case of future technology.

the ipod kit works fine on my 2008 OBS.

all i have to rember is to press 2 and pitycat or vice versa and scroll through my playlists.

when i put it in i routed the cable to the glovebox so it can be locked up.

works fine with the steering wheel controls so i can keep my eyes on the road.

Could someone upload some photos of the components and/or instructions to this product? I want to see if it's feasible to use with an '06 and a newer iPhone 3G. I know the description says "no" but that hasn't stopped me yet :-)

It's the same with many manufacturers. Even my brother's loaded Audi A3 S-line you can have ipod or sirius but not both which is ridiculous. You can buy a $100 aftermarket deck that can do both but manufacturers cant be bothered to add a second input to their factory integrated decks. Pretty shortsited if you ask me.

I ordered out iPod kit for our 07 Tribeca. Hopefully it will get here this week and get installed at the dealer. I also found a 20% coupon off accessories on the "my Subaru" site. Everyone should check that out.

I'll report back with pics on how it works.

I already have the iPod kit in my 08 OBS and it works great. I had it installed before I picked up the car. It's in the arm rest, but has a super short cord so it's hard to plug in the iPod. That is the only shortfall of it. I use an old iPod Mini so I just leave it in there all the time and don't care if it breaks.

Manufacturers need to get rid of the head unit all-together and just make an ipod/iphone be the head unit. Done and Done.

Subaru (as well as other manufacturers) really should be leaving the stereo as accessible to new features as possible and allow easy upgrades for anything they forgot initially. Take me for example, I have Nav and rear ent but would also like iPod, Bluetooth, and Sat. The fact I can't add these features later is an absolutely retarded move on Subaru's part because they are essentially passing on more money from me which obviously is a bad business move! Its like I am saying "here, take my money" and SUbaru is saying "no thanks, we have enough". This is so STUPID!!!

Subaru should make a new unit and allow some sort of stereo upgrade even to older models so everyone can be with the times if they so desire!

Aren't most of the Subaru head units just Panasonic or Clarion head units anyway?

I know my 08 OBS stock HU is a Clarion. I have no idea if you could use aftermarket Clarion parts on it though.

Alpine made the radios for Chrysler and my SRT-4 stock deck only had a single input but Dodge was smart enough to include a switch box with their ipod integration kit for cars that had a CD changer or satellite radio. The box received the inputs from the ipod module and the satallite radio module and had a single output to the deck. Pressing CD/Aux on the deck multiple times would cycle back and forth between Ipod and satellte radio. It worked well and I wish other automakers would at least provide this sort of solution if they are going to be too cheap to provide a second input to their decks.

I got the Sat radio, because I figured why the hell would I want to hear the same old tired 8GB worth of songs. I could load 2 DVDs with the MP3 files and play them that way if needed. But, for the last 3+ months, I've almost only listened to Sat radio. It's so much more worth it than the iPod.

I got rid of Sat radio in my other cars. I got tired of paying $12/ month for it. Now I have one less bill. I will admit it was nice having it on long drives.

Just received this generic explanation from Subaru.com RE an '06 Tribeca...doesn't say much, other than it's not impossible :-)

Hello Ms. Martin:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Subaru of America.

We do not offer an iPod Interface for our 2006 B9 Tribeca models. The new iPod Interface is only applicable to the 2007 to 2009 Tribeca models. The equipment in the 2006 B9 Tribeca models is different than that in the 2007 through 2009 Tribeca models.

If you need any future assistance, please let us know. Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
