I was talking about chassis engineering, refinement, tuning, etc... The GMG machine has the AMS TA1 beat in that area. The AMS TA2 will be more on par with the league dominating race machines of today.

we may do something, we are looking at building a lotus for time attack, but it will take a year.

ill see if maybe i can bring my 2.3 evo down for fun...

i hate driving cars where i drove race cars.. i did my first laps at summit!!

let's get together at the event.

cb

and again, i wasn't knocking crawford, i think everyone did an excellent job but the event wasn't "dominated"

Yes it is dominating...

A GT3R are out of the box ready to dominate period and it is restricted horsepower wise and I am sure quite a few other things are restricted for the class it races in....I mean they are a race car with a VIN #....

I wouldn't care if it was 5-10 years old regular Porsche ready to race it would be at the top of the list.
Look at these 2 Porsches and how old they are and how they would still dominate today granted not regular Porsches but still special built to race:

* 917 1960s (1st produced 1969) technology the car that changed the rules for the Lemans and has the record for the fastest lap-3:18:04 & most distance driven. performance #s: 0-60 1.9seconds / 0-100 10.9seconds / top speed 248mph

* 959 It's a 2.86Liter flat 6 late 1970s early 1980s (1st produced in 1981) technology that is still modeled after today and considered a top high performance car & would still dominate today. performance #s: 0-60 3.6seconds / 0-100 8.3seconds /1/4mile 11.8 @119

I think Porsche knows racing & the GT3R is just another example no matter how old it is....

It's a race built Porsche enough said Porsche knows racing and how to win. Even if it where just a street Porsche preped to race there it would still probably win.

Ok back on topic:
Is AMS building a whole new evo or just redoing the one they have now????

Just to clarify, I was not calling the GMG a race machine of today because I know it is dated. But STY, don't discredit it because as stated in the post directly above, it is still a Porsche racecar.

The new AMS TA2 is in fact a whole new car. It will be a race machine more worthy of the title race car. The TA1 which they have been using recently will remain in action until the new car debuts. So, as I said so many posts ago, this season will be interesting and I hope GMG and any other pro race programs bring their "A-games."

AMS new TA2 car Evo IX or VIII?

If IX SE or MR or regular...are they going with the aluminum roof for weight reduction...I know most race teams get MR and swap 5 speed in it cause they don't like 6 speed gearing and I think its 4th gear breaks like crazy in the 6speed box...

Is that right?

It takes the 917 1.9 seconds to get to 60, then 9 seconds to go from 60-100

The car is a standard Gsr 8. Just understand its gonna go through major work and nothing is finalized yet. There is a thread in the AMS section on Evom about both of there cars. The MR's 4th gear does suck major but once they are sent out to TRE or Shep's shop, nothing to worry about anymore. I bought the SE instead of the MR for that reason. Most of the options without the headaches.I would have bought the Sti limited but the dealer kept promising 1 more week 5 times so I just said screw it. I am looking for a WRX DD very soon so all this Crawford stuff is very interesting to me. Got nothing but love for both camps so I keep my comments factual, positive, and to the point.

Why did the Crawford STI change wheels from I believe the Enkei NT03 to ?? Weight reduction, sponsorship, sizing?

Another site said 2.3seconds 0-60. It was all fiberglass inside and out and had a V12 two 3.6L Flat 6s put together I beleive it maybe not the 1.9 but under 3 seconds YES.

SE would be what I would buy if getting an evo...Has the one thing I'd want that the MR has aluminum roof the rest is pointless....And would rather have 5 speed

Matt

oh wow. porsche history 101.... trust me.. i know porsches...

a gt3r is waaaaay past obsoleet in any pro racing series.... they are now on the 4th evolution of that car.. rs.. then rsr... now the 997 RSR.... the 6 rsr had 110 new things from the RS.... and the 997 as u know is pretyt much a whole new car aero wise.. along with some other things of corse...

the 996 is done.. the 997 is a much better car and can match 996 times without breathing... it is harder to drive tho...

theres no dout a older porsche would be at the top of the list for a redline time attack... but in PRO racing.. you need the newest stuff to win.... 996s are done.. finished... obsoleet.. le feeen....

maybe dominated one class, but not the event.

not taking anything away from a fantastic result, just think the title needs work.

cb

i would disagree. the suby entered the unlimited class when it was prepped for the modified class. the AMS evo was 500 lbs lighter and was prepped to be in Unlimited.

they walked away with 2 honors. 1st place in modified and 2nd in Unlimited. how is this not dominating? you take away those 500lbs from the crawford suby and they could have easily beaten AMS' evo in the unlimited awd class.

granted, crawford probably had the better driver on their suby with Tanner Foust.
