I don't have an '06, but thanks for the post anyway, great pics and very helpful.

I'd suggest submitting it to www.scoobymods.com.

Retard, (sorry, couldn't resist)

Make sure you hook up the power antenna wire, or you won't get jack for reception. The power antenna wire is used to power the signal booster (can't remember the exact term). You should get great reception if you have this hooked up.

The pocket was the universal pocket from best buy, that is no-car specific. Hope that helps!

*bookmarked* Very nice, thanks for this.

I searched but didn't find anything for speaker install and/or door panel removal on an 06. Has anyone done one? If so, link me please.

I just replaced the front speakers on my 06. Similar to the 2002 car - but different in some ways. More clips that hold the door panel to the metal inner door, the whole armrest inset with switches comes out as a single piece after you remove the screw in the little coin cup, and the trim piece around the door latches is bigger and has a front clip that is very nice. Also you'll find the inner door has WAY more soundproofing on it, the OEM speaker is now polypropolene (though still very cheap) and so forth. The speaker mounts are the same as in the earlier car - so my adapters worked, though there may not be quite as much clearance as there was in the 2002, not sure, but the window has a "stopper" or some such on it that lands up behind the speaker.

Anyway, it's the same idea - remove the screws in the armrest "cup" and behind the door latch, remove the armrest insert and unplug the connectors, carefully remove the door latch surround, and pull off the door panel, starting at the bottom. Be sure when you replace it to make sure that you've got all the pins reinstalled and aligned.

Just one question, which model of Impreza do you have, and did you use the WRX stereo harness, or the reverse one? I have a 2006 Imp 2.5I wagon, and am getting ready to install a new stereo. I have discovered there are two common subaru connecters. Im just not sure which one my car will need yet, havent torn out the old stereo to check the lines back there.

I have the STI. I used the connector for all 90+ Subaru models, from Best Buy. It should also work on your car as well. GOOD LUCK!

Check out salvo autoparts or track aout or even pep boys for the shrink tubing, heck Sears even sells the stuff.

I just finished soldering my Crutchfield harness to the 9856 harness and I have 2 wires left over from the 9856 harness that I don't know what to do with. One is marked REMO(TE) and the other IN INT. Any suggestions?

I also bought the XM Digital Adapter and Universal Tuner Box. Where is the best place to mount the two black boxes?

The REMO(TE) is usually switched 12 volt power to activate an external amp. It can also be used instead of the ANT line to power the antenna amplifier.

Yeah, its pretty amazing how crappy sounding the stock stereo is. I finally got around to throwing my old 9815 in this weekend. World of difference and it only takes 20 minutes.

RadioShack now has the good heat shrink. I work there. Also going to put my Pioneer DEH-P9200R and my Polk db6500 components in soon running off of an overrated Pioneer 480W four channel. I'll let you know how it sounds.
