This is a great thread....I didn't realize the OEM radio brackets are used with an aftermarket HU.
I know this is sort of the wrong thread, I have an 02' WRX with a factory sub (Not sure if the 04+ wiring harnesses are different but it looks the same). I pretty much think I have this all down right but want someone to verify something for me.
Ya know how the factory 14 pin plug goes into the back of the oem HU? Well down from there is another white plug connection (looks to be 14 pin). There are some other wires spliced in by that 2nd plug connection as well as the oem sub wires. I have a 14 pin Subaru wiring harness that I bought and it that plugs into that first plug, the one that goes into the HU...........do I just need to splice that Subaru wiring harness into the Alpine harness and be done? I read some other oem sub wiring threads and got a little confused.
Thanks!!

Ok, I just installed my Alpine 9857 and there is no sound coming from the speakers at all.......no static or anything. The HU powers on and a Cd even plays but no sound.

Yes.

Here's what you had behind the factory radio:
  • Car's factory harness (wires go into back of dash opening and connect to power and speakers). Had your car not had the subwoofer, this would have plugged straight into the factory radio.
  • Subwoofer T-harness. This has both genders of 14-pin connectors (looks like a short extension cable) and goes between the factory harness and the factory radio. Six of the wires also tap off and travel along the transmission hump to the subwoofer, under the seat.
See this thread for pictures and more information:

It sounds like you figured out how to connect the Subaru wiring adapter (also called a "forward" harness) to your Alpine's harness, and plugged that into the subwoofer T-harness.

I'd pull your harnesses back out and double check your connections.

While you're doing that you might as well try temporarily connecting the factory radio to see if everything still works. No need to slide it back into the dash, just plug in the 14-pin plug and antenna.

Next try bypassing the factory subwoofer and connect your Alpine to the car's wiring harness.

Are you sure the Alpine was good before you installed it?

Did you try all of the inputs (AM, FM, CD, Aux)?

Make sure the Alpine's internal amps have not been disabled (on the model CDA-9856, the menu option should say "POWER IC ON"). You only want this "off" when you've connected your speakers to an external amp. See the Alpine's manual for details.

I read through the thread, and i think i know the answer but... i have an 07 WRX TR (with the single din and the pocket underneath). can i reuse that pocket when i install my HU? I assume that I can; I just haven't taken the car apart yet and I want to get my supplies before I do.

Question

Thanks for doing that thread, it helps out a lot. I'm just curious about one thing. I am replacing my stock 2006 2.5i HU with and 05 sti HU. Will I have to do any of that electrical wiring stuff, or can I just plug in the 05 HU where the old one was? Thanks again.

idk if this was said yet but just wanted to put my two cents in and say that one thing that will help with stopping people from stealing your head unit will be to replace the philips head screws that hold the unit in with torx screws. Cheap replacement that helps, just FYI

Thanks,

This is my first post here, and If I haven't seen this great thread, it might have cost me a fortune.

I just have trouble with the antenna, I cant pull it from the stock deck??
is there a particular way to remove it.
I don't wanna spoil the connector (I have a impreza MY07) with the single din cd player.

It's just the standard, round, Motorola connector, right? Like on the far left side of this picture (click to see larger image)...
Perhaps it's a little tight, but it should just slide out. Grab by the plug, not the wire.

Yeah it is that. I'm just waiting for my DVD player then I'll just use a plier and pull it out. If it breaks I'll just have to use my soldering skills

does somebody know if i have a stock basic cd player in my 07 impreza 2.5i if i can swap it out with a stock cd changer? i feel like it should be straight forward (especially with this AWESOME with picture how to guide).

does anyone know if the cd changer has a more powerful amp in it than the single disc player?
