Does any one know if the harness for the 2006 OEM stereo is the same as the 2002?

I just installed my new head unit today. I got a Subaru smart harness and a Panasonic smart harness (for the head unit). I opted for this other harness to avoid messing with any soldering. I did enough of that back in the day (Heh... I'm a busy man. lol).

So.... remove the stock head unit, connected the Subie harness to the stock wire harness and then connected the Panasonic harness to the Subie harness and then the stereo. Bing bang boom I was done.

Got everything from Circuit City (except for the ipod cable).

Angry Head Unit Question

I have a 2007 2.5i and had my cd player put in but when i go to open the face to put a cd in it gets stuck on the bezel(sp) can the head unit be swapped with the factory "pocket" so that the pocket is on top and the radio on bottom?

Thanks

Is there a similar tutorial for how to upgrade the stock speakers? I don't want to have to take the whole door panel off. Is there an easier way to do it?

Anyone do an install on an 2006 Impreza 2.5i with stock stereo (not 6 disc changer)? I finally got to opening the panel up but it seems the stock harness is buried deep on the left hand side and I can't get at its end to unhook it. There is also a black cable on the lower right side at the back (besides the white clip for the wires) that I don't know how to remove and it actually loops around the back and goes behind the unit for the A/C controls; doesn't seem to be part of the wiring harness.
[EDIT]Maybe I'm being dumb as I've been up since 5AM. Is it the clip on the back of the deck itself that is unhooked?

wow ... this was awesome. I installed my sirius satellite by using this guide. All the wires come out through the bottom of the two center vents and attach straight to my Sirius Sportster4 unit. Makes things so much easier. Thanks alot

Thanks for the write up, it helped me out a lot. The din pocket I got doesn't fit as snug as I was hoping, but I''m gonna redo it when I get the rest of my audio stuff anyway.
I also have a question for whoever has an answer. What is the smaller harness that I disconnected from the back of the stock radio? There was nowhere to put it so I just left it out.

Was the plug square and have 8 pins? That would be the harness for the Aux Input jack. See the pictures starting in this post (#21, and several posts following that).

If the harness plug had 13 pins and plugged into the black socket to the right of the 8-pin Aux socket on the rear of the stock radio (see the pictures above), that is for the satellite radio tuner module.

can you just wrap the wires together really well for the harness instead of soldering?

NO!

Solder isn't necessary, but some form of permenant mechanical connection should be done. Solid crimping is 100% fine. Wire nuts, twisting, bubblegum, and happy thoughts are not a good idea.

Not to mention superglue, masking tape, and wax.

Perhaps it's a little tight, but it should just slide out. Grab by the plug, not the wire.
what is that socket on the far right for?

fantastic tutorial, for those of you who havent installed one before, dont be afraid, its about time you stop paying those ******** at the best buy/circuit city/etc. and do it yourself. an install that takes 15 minutes and can be done by the greenest shade (thanks unibomber for the wordage) is not worth ~$50.

Great tutorial, just one question. Do I anchor the ground wires with the c-shaped connector to one of these screws? If not where do they go?
